So after seeing the doctor yesterday we felt things were starting to move in the right direction. Mia has been feeding better and doesn't seem to be in so much pain anymore. However the sickness is still there and I had her weighed today and she's only gained 2oz. Last week she had only gained 1oz. She was on the 50th centile but today she has dropped below it. I had a good chat with the health visitor and we are going to try her on aptamil reflux formula to see if this helps. If by next week her weight is still a concern then we have to be referred back to the paediatrician. She also mentioned nutrimagen formula which she is going to speak to the doctor about. This will be our next step if she still isn't keeping food down. I mentioned to her that hubby used to have a cows milk allergy when he was younger and that he suffers with eczema and asthma and she thought there could be a genetic link.
I'm going to look into cranial osteopathy today too. I'm so desperate to help her, I wish there was a magic answer.
We had one of her nightmare days yesterday where she was awake from 1 until 8.30. Then in the middle of the night she had one of her screaming episodes where you can't do anything to help her. We are so tired!!!
The health visitor made me do a post natel depression score sheet thing and I came out with a fairly high score. I'm going to go to a group they run for that reason. I don't feel depressed as such, I just feel so tired and tearful a lot of the time. I worry about Mia so much too.

Hope everyone else is ok today! Xx

aww sorry to hear mia is still not sorted hun, it must be exhausting for you all! really hope things improve with the new formula :hugs:

xx

I'm so sorry to read you are having a tough time. Big sympathies from me. I know how hard it is. My baby was very similar at that age.

Get as much help as you can would be my advice . I tried to be at super mum at first and wouldn't let anyone take her to give me a break and when I look back now I wish I had sooner. A screaming baby is very wearing after even a short space of time never mind for prolonged periods. You need to be in good shape to be able to look after her too sweetie.

I am glad to read they are taking you seriously though, that is something.

I hope they get to the bottom foot quickly and you can start to enjoy being a mummy more x

Hugs. Hope you find the solution soon - make sure you get plenty of support and go to groups - mums understand and don't bat an eyelid when babies are crying - my baby massage group is so loud from babies screaming and crying no one can ever hear the instructor and best part is babes are generally naked so if they vomit it's easy to clear up! (as I discovered today)!

Remember to vent to us all on here x

New formula hasn't stayed down either. At a&e as waiting to see someone. Had enough of it now. My poor daughter has been unhappy everyday since birth. I'm struggling to cope. I had to feed and re feed her 3 times earlier. She's hungry as soon as she's sick so she never settles. It's very hard. Will let you all know how I get on x

aww poor you hun, maybe it will take a few days for the formula to take effect? What was her birth weight and whats her weight now?

8lb and she's now 8lb 8 at 4 weeks 1 day old. Only gained 1oz last week and 2oz this week. At least she hasn't lost.

oh hun, hold on there, screaming baby is so so hard. My lo was attached to me as i couldnt put him down without him screaming. Prescription formula made a big difference, push for it, at least you can try and see if it works. I think pyloric stenosis was mentioned too

If your at A & E get the doctors to check for Pyloric Stenosis it can't hurt.

They have to feel around her intestine stomach area for an olive sized lump, at 3 weeks it might be harder to feel, that's when R's was detected and they could barely feel his.

You could also push for an ultrasound on it as this is the only sure way to know that it is or isn't at least at that point they can rule it out altogether :)

Hope she will improve now xxx

Well it was a waste of time to be honest. They had a good check over her. We mentioned pyloric stenosis and they said it was unlikely as its more in boys and I assume they checked when they felt her tummy. Prescription formula will be the next step if the meds don't work which he said could take 3-4 weeks to work :(
God knows how I'm going to cope that long! There's no magic answer I'm afraid. I've just got a hellish time ahead. X

It will get better. This can't go on forever, if this formula doesn't work then at least there is a back up with prescription formula.
Is there any way you can have some time out, just for a couple of hours?
Big hugs x

We were told to stick with the normal cow and gate formula too as chopping and changing food upsets babies tummys too and the anti reflux one seemed worse!! Last night she was brilliant and woke at 3 and just now and went straight back to sleep.
We do have people that will help us but I suppose I feel bad asking when she can be so difficult! X

Glad to hear you had a bit of a break fom it all last night with LO sleepig well! Like the others have said, it cant go on forever! And i'm sure people wont mind helping out when you need them to hun, if they can see how much of a hard time you have it at the moment they should be happy to give you a little break, i know if it was a family member or even a good friend i'd be willing to help out for a while :hugs:

xx

Yeay for sleep! Makes everything that big easier. Don't feel guilty leaving her with anyone - I bet they would be happy to help x

Grrr pisses me off when they say that, yes it is more in boys but a good proportion of girls have it too...

At 3 weeks it is really hard to diagnose without an ultrasound...

Hopefully it will settle down for you and i'm glad you got some sleep xxxxx

We will have an appt with the gastro clinic so they will assess things further. Drives me nuts that they just fob you off too but to be honest I don't think they really know what's wrong either. They think reflux but they don't do tests for it and you just have to wait it out with the drugs. It's frustrating x

I went to see 4 different doctors at the surgery and they all fobbed me off with reflux and that 'the meds take 4 weeks to settle in', I left it until the HV came and she observed a feed, she also observed that feed being splattered on the wall across the other side of the room and she got a doctors referral straight to the hospital.

Whilst there they observed a feed as well as they said reflux, gave him domperidone as well and he threw up over the doctor (i've never been so proud :)) they were going to try ranitidine but they sent us for an ultrasound anyway and it was picked up.

I would push for them to do the ultrasound, at the end of the day it won't hurt to do it and it will rule it out.

Sorry I get rather on my high horse when it comes to this as it is not well known about and it should as if it gets too bad it can be life threatening...

If you need any other info let me know xxx

That's ok Hun! It has been mentioned by three different doctors but I think because she's not projectile vomiting they don't think it's that. She has good and bad days. Yesterday was really good. Mornings seem to be worse for some reason! Xx

Sometimes R didn't projectile vomit it just kind of dribbled out, to be fair by the time it got to him being admitted it was projectiling every time.

I would say go with your gut instinct but bear Pyloric in mind as a last resort, it can be dangerous for babies if they lose too much weight.

Do you have a photo of your baba? Has she been putting on weight?

I sound like a broken record I do apologise.... xxx

I have lots of photos but I have an I pad and it's rubbish of putting photos on here! Her weight gain was great when I was bf her up until 10 days old then she only gained 1oz and last week 2oz but at least she's not losing. They want to see how much she gains this week and then assess from there.
X
