I wanted to share my experience with you because, although it was really worrying, it has a happy outcome. Thanks to 'fynemum' (Yvonne) for her resassuring words. I too wanted to try to reassure any of you who might be worrying that there can be a happy outcome, even if you've experienced bleeding in the first trimester.
I've mentioned on other posts that I've had a worrying brown discharge for the past two weeks. Well, on Friday there, it turned pink, almost red. I took Yvonne's advice and called my local early pregnancy unit (EPU) because I hadn't even had my booking appointment with my midwife. They were full on Friday, but booked me in for an ultrasound for today (Monday). I almost thought of cancelling it because on Saturday, for the first time in weeks, I had no discharge at all. I woke up on Sunday, however, and noticed bright red blood on wiping a few times. In horror, I looked into the toilet bowl and there was blood in there too.
Terrified I was having a miscarriage, I went straight back to bed, where I stayed for the rest of the day. I had a few spasms across my stomach too and felt dizzy and light-headed if I stood up. Thankfully, the blood turned to brown again, but I was still worried sick when I went to the EPU for a scan today.
The sonographer got the baby up on screen straight away and I almost couldn't bear to look until she said, "there's the heartbeat". I was SO relieved! She told me that by the crown to rump measurements I was 12 weeks.
I still have to go for my routine scan at 13 weeks - next week, to check the head measurements and whatever else they check, but, for now (touch wood), despite fresh bleeding and a weekend filled with worry (convinced I was miscarrying), everything looks okay.
Like Yvonne does on here, I would advise anyone who has bleeding and is concerned to call their early pregnancy unit direct. They are very understanding and try to fit you in as soon as possible.
Anyway, just wanted to share my relief with everyone. I didn't have any bleeding with my last 2 pregnancies, so I really thought I was miscarrying. So glad to report that baby is still in there, kicking away!
