Hi

Has anyone here suffered from an Eptopic Pregnancy? I am currently 7 weeks pregnant but have the feeling something is wrong. Every now and then I get sharp jabs in my lower abdomen usually on one side. I also find my lower abdomen painful to touch occasionally. Does this sound normal? I am really worried as read about eptopic pregnancies and these were given as symptoms? Has anyone any advice on the symptoms of an eptopic?

Thanks

I know that sharp pains can be worrying and its usually your first thought...but I had those pains your describing too...as did alot of the girls here...

Symptoms of ectopic pregnancy include, shoulder pain (as the pain is refered) and due to some blood leaking into the abdomen and irritating the diaphragm...

Ummm

and sometimes vaginal bleeding.

If the pain is bad, you should phone your early pregnancy unit, they can assess you and see if it is an ectopic or not, thats what I did, and they scanned me the next day.

hiya,

sorry to hear about your pain, i have had a ectopic and suspect ectopic, both times i had pain on the left side tender to touch, not a pain as such but an uncomfortable feeling in my shoulder, and vaginal bleeding which was very light and more of a brownish colour, sorry for tmi.

i have had 2 health pregnancies since and i still had discomfrot on my left side and i have had the same this time but all is well

could just be everything stretching especially if its your first.

hiya,

i had an ectopic pregnancy which wasn't diagnosed till 8 weeks after a week of monitoring. i had spotting which turned to a dark brown bleed from about 6weeks onwards and was being monitored for that - i was actually told the day before i got admitted to hospital for its removal that i could go home cos i was having a miscarriage.

I didn't have any pain until about 2 hours before my op was scheduled. 1 thing i did have though which i was later told was a symptom was quite sharp jabbing pain when i went for a number 2. also, if my bladder was really full i got quite naggy pains down the right side. day to day though, i didn't have anything major apart from the bleeding which i could pinpoint.

i hope it works out hun, just keep an eye on it - its not worth it to not

x

hi there,

I have had an ectopic but symtoms can vary depending how far along in your pregnancy you are

PLEASE if in any doubt about pain contact your EPAC straight away.

Depending on how far along you are they will or should scan straightaway or do BHCG levels over 48 hours possibly longer and rescan.

Take care get checked out hun
Good luck

You could also be experiencing normal pregnancy stretching pains (ligament pains) which women get in the early stages. They are sharp and fairly fleeting.

I remember getting lots of sharp pains, which was my body adjusting to being pregnant as well as being quite sensitive in that area.

Try not to worry too much but if you have more pains that don't go away, any bleeding and so on contact your MW or doctor (or EPU direct but they may not be able to see you straight away anyways) and they can refer you to the EPU if they feel its needed. They are the best people to discuss your symptoms with if you feel that there is something wrong and will be able to give you an informed medical opinion.

Thanks for all your posts they are really informative. I contacted my doctor and she said not to worry for the minute as lots of strange pains happen in early pregnancy but I am booked in to see the MW on weds so fingers crossed!!
