Sweep booked!!

Just been for my routine check up at the midwife at my docs and she called the hospital to book me in for a sweep on the 14th Feb cos the pain of my SPD is so bad. She took one look at me when I walked in and said she would do it!!! Clearly I must look fooking awful!!!

So Im pretty relieved. Just hope my body plays ball and my cervix is not really closed or anything.

Other good news is that baby is even further engaged than he was last week. He is also a big un apparently!! Measuring 39.5 weeks now and she said it was all little boy!!! I think an epidural is looking more and more appealing....

Sorry to sound a bit stupid but what do they actually do when they give you a sweep?

Also how do you get your cervix to open in preparation?

I didnt know this for ages either. Apparently the midwife puts her finger up and waggles it about along the lining of your womb, but in order to do this your cervix needs to be pretty soft and not completely closed otherwise she cant get her finger up there!

As for how to make sure your cervix is ready, Im not sure how to go about that so any advice would be gratefully received!

God, this is what I am hoping for in a few weeks time. I'm the same as you Jen so fingers crossed they will take pity on me too and induce me early!

I HATE the crutches but I'll be using them on Thursday to see the MW!!!!!

As for how to make sure your cervix is ready, Im not sure how to go about that so any advice would be gratefully received!

Apparently (and I am no expert - just got this from my NCT class this week) prostaglandins are the key thing for getting the cervix to soften and open. They are found in sperm, so you need to get busy with the fizzy
I also read an article last week about evening primose oil

'Evening primrose oil is an excellent source of prostaglandins, which we already determined readies your cervix for labor. It can be taken orally as soon as 34 weeks, and can be applied directly to the cervix at full term (36 weeks). The general recommendation is two 500mg
capsules per day until week 38, at which time you increase to 3-4 per day. The entire capsule can be inserted vaginally (inserted just before bed, it will dissolve before the first time you wake to use the bathroom), or you can use the oil on your fingers for your perineal massage, then also rub on your cervix (assuming you can reach it). Applying directly to the cervix is optimal, but the beneficial ingredients are absorbed through the external skin or the stomach also. '

I checked it out with my NC teacher and she said she had heard about this working too.

some people on the forum have gone down the 'oodles of sex' route but to no avail, so I hope it works for you

we will see Im not so sure cos i havent had any other symptoms up to now and my little boy seems very happy where he is!! It all depends on whether my cervix is viable for doing it or not. Im gonna take daily baths in Primrose Oil!!!!!

lol, well i put a capsual of it up there last night and woke up with another massive (tmi) snot ball. honestly ive been losin my plug for ages i dont know how much more can be up there! just had back ache today tho so gunna use another one tonight hehehe
i think i will still be here til march hahaha.
i hope tho in ur case with u bein in pain i hope he come ssooner rather than later, its bad enough when u havent got pain but with it.....
its aload of poo if u ask me. xxx
