Hi Ladies,

Just wondering if it's safe to use a sunbed while pregnant. Sorry if its a stupid question!

Its just raining cats and dogs here and fancied a sunbed, then though, shit i'm preg, lol!

Any help would be great,

sorry darling its a no go,i really fancy certical tanning and its killing me as my skin is soo pasty soemthing about the uv shining through the stomach or something

Don't think they recommend it, think its because it overheats the baby, I went on one a week before I found out, and have steered clear since - felt bad I'd been on one at all.

Sorry to ruin your fun hun, the rain had just finally stopped here and the blue skies coming out, I'll will it in your direction to make you feel a bit better

with my first 2 pregnancys i worked in a sunbed salon i was adicted and the horrid manager told me i needed to keep my tan to promote the sunbeds ect i used the sunbeds and both pregnancys i missed caried, once at 12 weeks and once at 7weeks, dont no if its related though, but on my 3rd pregnancy i got sacced for getting pregnant to much :? :talkhand: so i never used a sunbed and had a beautifull lil girl

but preg girls were able to use the sunbeds as long as they signed to say its their responsibility ect

Thats cool i just wanted to check.

You never know what safe and whats not these days. Some preg books i've been reding say sun is good for you as it helps synthesise vit D (i think its vit D, lol).

So i was hoping, never mind eh

Oh my god dionne thats terrible, you should have put him under the sunbed for 4 hours to teach him a lesson, :rotfl:

there is no evidence to show its unsafe, i looked into it alot and decided to continue but like i said both times i had a m/c :?

here is a quote taken form http://www.nhsdirect.nhs.uk/articles/ar ... icleId=956

There is currently no clear evidence about the effect of UV rays from sunbeds on an unborn baby. However, early studies show that there may be a link between increased UV rays and a folic acid deficiency. This is because UV rays can break down folic acid. Folic acid is very important in the development of the baby’s neural system (brain and spinal cord), which is formed in the first trimester (weeks 1-13) of pregnancy.

I wouldnt advise any one to use a sunbed at any time, im a beauty therapist and am always being asked to take them on, trust me they do far too much damage and hardly any good at all. Very against them im afraid! :?

me too jaidybaby, im proud to say never been on a sunbed in my life!

i wouldnt think it was safe to use when pg, not supposed to overheat the baby as its bad for them....

I know they are bad for you.

But laying in the 'fake' sun for 10 mins usually cheers me up when i'm down.

I haven't been on one since march when i had my last tattoo though, and before that it was only now and again.
