I am healthy eating and exercising regularly. The reason I'm starting tomorrow is because it's pancake day today and I can't possibly miss that.

I weighed myself this morning and I've put on 8lbs  I used to eat really healthy (mainly salads) but since getting pregnant my eating habbits have taken a turn. Cucumber made me gag and most other healthy food did too. Now my nausea has eased quite alot I've got no excuses, also I don't feel as tired as I did so I'm going to exercise. I've ordered Davina's pregnancy workout DVD, and I'm also going to do alot of walking (I've never been one for going to the gym, prefer to do it at home).

I wonder how long this will last

Aww don't fret too much. Weight gain is normal when pregnant. And remember its probably not going on you, but on baby. So long as you are not pigging out on pointless foods filled with sugar or fat then its fine.

It is advised to eat more starchy carb filled food when PG as we need more calories etc daily. Pasta, rice, potatoes are all good.

Also salads tbh are not really healthy. Lettuce has no nutritional content whatsoever and while toms, cucumber and other salad fillers are good, its not what I'd want to eat every day when PG. Body needs lots of green veggies and other veg, meat (if a meat eater), fish and other foodstuffs.

So long as you are eating a well balanced diet you should be fine. Taking regualr moderate exercise is also good. I walk an hour a day at least, all the way down our drive and back (long hill going back) and then elsewhere also. Plus I am acitve just round the house etc.

I'd certainly not be trying to survive on salads as baby growing in there is going to need lots of nutrients from your diet and also you'll need the carbs for energy to carry LO for the rest of your PG.

FWIW, if eating well vitamin tablets are not really needed in a normal pregnancy as I understand it. As someone else mentioned the other day, they also don't absorb as well into the body as vitamins taken from our food.

Enjoy your pancakes :)

Thank's for that. You are right about the salad, not exactly substantial is it? I would have tuna/boiled egg/chicken/cheese with it, and either new potatoes or wholemeal bread. I know my body needs more than it did before and I will make sure my diet is balanced. It's just I have really been eating absolute rubbish lately. One of the main thing's I'm going to change is my snacks, instead of crisps and chocolate I will eat fruit. I know gaining weight is natural in pregnancy but I'm so paranoid about it, I had just gotten to a weight I was happy with, after months of hard work, and now it's all creeping back on. I'm worried I will end up like my friend, she put on 6 stone, and her baby is now 4 months old and she's only lost 2 stone (which she lost straight away and hasnt lost anything since).

   You sound like you'll do just fine. You've realised what you want and need to do and thats a good thing. Just don't deprive yourself of the odd treat as life will get vrey boring

I sat and ate a large bag of Minstrels in a day recently  I'd been craving them for days and finally caved, but a small pack wouldn't do it. O no I had to have the huge one and sit here and stuff them inside of 6 hours :rotfl: I felt guilty as hell afterwards and have not touched chocolate since :wall:

But I'm eating well overall. I stick to Weetabix for brekkie, something on toast, soup or a small jacket spud with filler for lunch and a main meal in the evening.

I also adore natural yogurt with a mashed banana, sliced apple and a handful of raisins. Yummy.

But I've eaten my share of crappy pointless food also. Choccies and savoury pastry foods are my downfall. I don't eat junk food as in fast food or processed stuff, which is at least something. I also don't touch fizzy drinks or stuff like that either. I dread to think how much I weigh now, but ah well, I can worry about it later.

I guess during pregnancy it's about getting a balance between extra nutrients and overeating! As above, the odd treat won't hurt and you can cut yourself some slack with all the extra work your body's doing.

Are people eating more in general? I eat well, regular meals with at least 5 portions of fruit and veg a day and loads of carbs (which don't seem to put weight on me) but wonder if we should start adding extra calories at this stage?

I do crave a little bit more food, at this point I tend to eat an extra bowl of cereal before bedtime to tide me over through the night. If I don't, sometimes I'll wake up really hungry around 5am or so.

I'm eating more of some foods for sure. I am not a huge fruit fan, I like some, but am hard pushed to eat it daily. So by having yogurt and mashing a banana and adding an apple I get my portions in.

I think if you are eating plenty of carbs I'd not worry too much about your calorie intake. Carbs take longer to burn off, so your body has energy from them. Porridge is a great start to the day for example, you can go longer on that than eating cornflakes.

They say you need to increase by up to 500 calories a day when PG, but I think that needs to be based on your current/usual diet.

I'm one of those who just has to look at a lettuce leaf to gain weight, so being PG and eating more bulky foods is adding on the pounds, but I am not worrying too much. I feel healthy and am exercising well. I don't drink or smoke (before, during or after PG) so in those respects I am doing ok. I shall work out and find an eating plan once LO is here. I am one of those that tend to lose weight really quickly and hope that won't change after baby is born.

I was worried about my weight gain after the first trimester and it is around this time that I started to read the gentle birth method and adopt the recommended eating regime in there. It's really fab and I haven't put any weight on since 18 weeks.

I really recommend the book not just for diet but a good holistic approach to pregnancy. I have loads of energy and a really neat bump with no weight gain elswewhere :D

I've just ordered it :) Look's interesting, can't wait for it to be delivered.

I wouldn't worry about putting on 8lb by 15 weeks.... In my pregnancy week by week book it gives you the amount of expected weight gain at each week and I think that's about right for 15 weeks.... I've put on 11lb now and the book says 10-14lb, so I'm right on target!!!

P.S. Anyway, I've found pregnancy is the best excuse to be able to have that odd bit of chocolate or something else you crave and wouldn't normally allow yourself.... don't give that up!! Now where's that Twix bar???

Yeah it's amazing, I never realised that womens bits down below can get conjested and puffy due to what you eat and this contributes to long labours and intervention needing to take place when getting the baby out. The diet she recommends gives you the best chance at getting your bits below in good shape, but also provides you with lots of energy. I also started pregnancy yoga which is brilliant for focusing the mind and learning about breathing as well as getting the baby in a good position and strengthening the right muscles for labour.

Ha, ha, after all this I bet I still need internevtion

JodieLou, doesn't sound to me like you've put on too much weight. I think as someone else has said that it's well within the normal range. I seem to have the opposite problem at the moment and have been ordered to eat more

Ive put on about 8 9 ilb but thats all baby so im ok with it
you'll be fine love your eating healthy so your weight is all baby related
