sleeping in the car seat

well don't do it. only let them lay in the car seat when they are travelling in the car. don't be tempted to leave them in there for any length of time at all.

if you do it can lead to really bad back problems when they are bigger.

when i went to the physio after having baby budge my physio told me that she sees a lot of babies and toddlers with back and chest problems due to not being laid flat when they are baabies.

:) hope this helps.

i had heard it could cause chest problems. thats why they think child hood asthma has increased becasue of these sillt travel systems they do now.
but it was news to me about the curvature of the spine thingo. I was shocked.

They shouldn't be in a car seat for longer than 3 hrs at one time either :)

The lady in mothercare told us 2 hrs!

my doctor told me they should be in there for no longer than 30 mins max and if any longer than that should be taken out and given a break.

I think just use your common sense and don't leave LO in a car seat unnecessarily, ie when not in a moving car  If you take a long car journey, try and make a stop, I was told a couple of hours is fine. Isaac loves his car seat, they should invent a safe mattress shaped like one

Stephen used 5to be the same nat and id let him sleep but then this debat wasnt out so i did leave him but with imogen i get her out straight away

thats not very practicle!! that means untill your baby is 9 months and in the next stage seat you cant jorney anywhere longer than 30 mins unless you want to stop every half hour!!

At our classes they said 2-3 hours with a 30 min break inbetween the 2-3 hour limit which is why i never bought one of these maxi cosy seats with a frame to sit it in as a buggy like I see so many of these days!

my mw told me only 2 hours max. millie slept well in it when she was newborn and i asked about it but was told not 2 do it. x

Have just read this in Mother & Baby Mag...

Although baby car seats are vital for car journeys they shouldn't be used for naps at home, particularly for tiny babies. This is because research has shown that babies who are left to sleep in car seats for long periods can suffer a drop in oxygen levels. Another recent study by Canadian scientists found that v young babies (under 1mth) were more likely to die of cot death when sleeping in a sitting position rather than lying flat.
"If your baby has been sleeping in the car and is just about to wake, leave him. But if he falls asleep just before you get home, transfer him to a moses basket or cot when you get in."
