Silly question?

I've got my first midwife appointment tomorrow with the community MW, but I've had some more bleeding since last night. I'm not sure whether to just wait for tomorrow to come so she can decide what to do, or whether I should ring the gynea ward today? I rang NHS Direct last night about the stomach cramps which haven't gone since the milk, and apparently it's not the milk as I haven't been sick or had diahorrea (tmi) so it must be the pregnancy cramping and stretching?

Will it be alright to wait? Part of me thinks I should check it now because of the blood already round the baby, but part of me thinks maybe its just the excess blood coming out, and if anything has happened to the baby, they can't do anything anyway :|

What would you do?

Do you have a local early pregnancy unit near you? If so I would go there. They will definitely see you if you are bleeding. I think it is better to go if it will ease your mind and they can check with ultrasound that the baby is ok. A few weeks ago I had some concerns about my pregnancy and I went to one and the doctor and nurse there were really good, kind and helpful and it really eased my mind. There is nothing better than peace of mind when you are pg and they are specialists in early pregnancy. Incidentally I also get a lot of strange cramping pains and very odd twinges, sometimes they take my breathe away. I think this is just the uterus expanding to accomodate but if you are having bleeding also it might be better to check just to be sure.

Good luck and hope you feel better soon!

The EPU is off my Gynea unit (It's on that website). I'd feel like I was wasting their time becuase they only scanned me Friday and told me what the problem is (the blood around the baby) and I've had 5 scans already in total.
As for the cramps, I know they're pretty normal, but I feel like I've been jumped on the stomach 20 times when I wake up, it hurts so much, god knows why. I never had this much pain with my son. And during the day it's constant, it's so wierd. Maybe my uterus is just pushing out already??

Id go up there Sami, and give yourself peace of mind I really would.

Dont feel like you are being a burden or they wont be able to do anything for you, its better to be safe than sorry hun. Even if they do send you home then at least you know you got it checked out.

 Let us know how you got on

Sami, I wouldn't worry about thinking you're wasting their time. They really are there to help women who have pregnancy concerns and the fact that you are bleeding is concern enough to worry. When I went to see them I wasn't bleeding (I was having very bad cramping though and some other problems) and I thought they would laugh at me. They couldn't have been nicer and they really understood how seriously women take pg especially in the early stages.

When you were scanned on Friday did they tell you that you might experience bleeding? If not, then it is not surprising you are worried and you have every right to be. Maybe give the EPU a call and see what they suggest? Don't worry about wasting their time, they are part of the NHS and as such have an obligation to help everyone who is suffering and ease your mind, regardless of the severity or not.

My pains are also sometimes really strong. I said to my OH the other night that I can't believe how painful things can be. I read that if they come and go they are normal and if they are pretty much constant there might be something more serious.

I know its easy for me to say but please try not to worry and certainly do not worry about bothering the EPU staff, that is what they are there for!

Thanks Dinski and Jade.
Dinski, did you ing the EPU on that number on the website? I can't find the gynae ward number.

Sami, my local EPU is in the 'women's health' dept of my local hospital. I got their number from the main switchboard of the hospital and they put me through to the EPU dept. I phoned them and then went in.

Really good luck sweetie!

I've had worse cramping this time Sami, not sure why. Have been in a lot of pain the past couple of days, but obviously no blood. If it was me I would wait to see the MW tomorrow as I'd know there would be nothing they could do at the hospital and I'd probably just feel angry with them. Obviously your decision though :) Good luck and hope you feel better soon :)

Well rang GP and he said hang tight unless bleeding gets worse as there isn't anything they can do, which is what I said anyway. At least I know I'm doing the right thing now.

Fingers crossed the bleeding doesn't get worse, hopefully the MW will have some advice tomorrow :)

good luck with mw tomorrow hun, let us know how you get on x

Bleeding again but holding out till tomorrow, I think it's just the blood around the baby coming away, and I haven't lost a big clot or anything so should all be okie. Wish I had a doppler or something!

Would it pick up the heartbeat at 9 weeks? I don't think I'd rent one again this time, though it would be nice to hear. Do you think you will?

I got it clear as a button with Damien at 10 weeks, and you can sometimes pick them up from 8 weeks, so I might do?? I'm going to rent one again this time, just waiting for some pennies.

I'm so sorry you are having a rubbish time - hopefully things will pick up so you can enjoy your pregnancy  xx

 sami hun im sure all will be fine am thinking of you hun xxxxxxx
