So Im looking at our monthly outgoings and trying to get quotes to see if we can switch companies to reduce the cost. Ive started with home insurance and Im so shocked at how easy it was!!

I went online and got a load of quotes and found on cheaper so I rang my current company to check that they wouldnt give me a massive cancellation fee or anything, and I literally just asked what return premium Id get if we left cos we've found a cheaper quote and we're trying to reduce our outgoings. She said would you stay if I knock £5 per month off your payment. she did even ask about the quote or who it was with. So I said yes that sounds just fine to me! Its so worth ringing up all these companies and pretending youre going to leave them!!

Im really pleased!! Onto gas and electric now *shudder*

Sky do that! If you phone up an say you can't afford it they lower your bill.
Also I did it with orange, they changed my tarriff so I got unlimited txts cos I said I couldn't afford my bill

yeah orange are really good for that! Also if youre getting a new mobile/phone/ internet contract, youve got 30 days to cancel so set it up then ring up and say that youre pulling out cos youre not happy with the length of contract and they all reduce them to 12 month contracts even though they dont advertise them. Our phone/broadband is 12 months. And they didnt charge the £70 setup fee cos I said we couldnt afford it amazing!!

do it, right now!!! go on moneysupermarket website, type in your contents insurance details then right your current provider and tell them youve found another quote. simples

do it do it do it! I HATE paying more money than I need to. Although Im pleased we've had a reduction Im a bit pissed off that we couldve had it months ago

I cant reduce my car insurance. damnit. I cant think what else I can try and save money on. ideas?! can you switch water company?

If you fancy doing your advanced driving you might be able to get insured via the insitution of advanced motorists at a fraction of your current insurance

My OH did his advanced driving, and his insurance went right down x Don't know how it works though, he had only been driving 2 years when he did it x

That's good to know, my mobile contract is currently 2years! I will remember that for next time x
