For inspiration for Valentine  I know a few people are making/have made their own, but please share if you've a nice one you've bought too.

I'm currently knitting a throw/blaket out of sock yarn, here's a progress pic

Oooh thanks Minxy! I'll share my pic of a cot bed quilt I made for a friend's baby girl for her christening last year.

I LOVE the throw! Mmmmmmm

Here you go!

(Sorry pics are a bit small, click on image to get bigger version...)

Getting me all inspired to make another now! I've got so many friends having babies, that it might be a nice gift for them.

Anyone else do patchwork?

Not my handywork, but my MIL's.

She made Evie this gorgeous patchwork quilt for her cotbed. She volunteers in a charity shop and got all the material from clothes that were going to salvage (not good enough to be sold) :D

Lovely pics ladies.

FB, the amount of clothes charity shops send to rag is  If it's so much as missing a button in it goes. Your MIL has done a sterling job

I know, she picks loads of stuff up for us - I'm sure its the only reason she volunteers :) The shop she works in also only keeps stock for two weeks, if it hasn't sold that also goes to salvage.

I love your knitted blanket :D

I bought all the stuff to start patchwork but then never got round to it. I need to practice more on my sewing machine and i never got round to it.

Oooh anything you want to sell to me? Seriously, let me know.

what do you need, I have books, material, the padding stuff etc

I had a big plan to make sensory baby playmats, I once saw a fantastic one, with mirrors and toys attached.... never got round to it then started my pendants so now I'll never so it.

Ive just started making a quilt for my youngest. Have pieced together the front, just need to get material for the back, binding & the batting for the middle. Will try & post a pic.

Not the best photo, but the only one I have at the mo. The colours are a lot brighter in real life. Going to put a white border around the squares, then a really bright binding. Well, thats the plan anyway!!

Wow, LP that's lovely! Is the material purpose bought? Where from?

It's a Charm Pack, by a designer called Heather Bailey. A Charm Pack is a pack of precut fabric squares, usually 5" squares. Unfortunately when I prewashed them, they frayed quite bad, so thats why the blocks are staggered as they arent the same size now!! I bought 2 other charm packs for other quilts, but will be more careful prewashing!!

Got them from The Quilt Room (www.quiltroom.co.uk).

Aw Lisa, love the quilt, its fab!

Minxy, I am blaming you entirely for me spending 18 pounds yesterday in the fabric shop on fat quarters! Then I got home and realised I didn't have a template to cut of my squares :wall: , so probably should have gone for something like a charm pack (which I didn't know existed). So I still haven't started! Am absolutely raring to go though!

Valentine, you could always cut a square out of card, to use as a template, to get you started. I used the charm pack as I cannot cut in a straight line, so need to shell out on a rotary cutter at some point. What colour fabrics did you buy?

Mrs Brightside, they arent too hard, just time consuming, definately something not to rush. As for expense, well they can be!! Depends on the fabrics you use as there are some lovely expensive fabrics out there. One lovely idea is to make a quilt from baby clothes, kind of like a memory quilt.

Heres hoping I can do some more sewing today, if the kids will let me!!

Hey,

That's what I thought, but I asked my Mum (who does quilting) and she said I'd end up going wonky and I'm now waiting for my Dad to make me 4" and 5" templates cut from perspex or wood. Maybe I'll give it a go from card and see how I get on. My OH is a primary school teacher and has a very steady hand from doing all those displays so maybe he'll help me - I've just seen how bonkers my wrapping paper cutting up can go!

I'd like a rotary cutter or at least some lovely dressmaking scissors too. Oooh its so frustrating having most things and not being able to get going! I can see me getting addicted.

I'm making a baby girl quilt first so I bought all pinky colours, I'll post a pic later. Hopefully what I bought will do me a few baby quilts as I think they are a lovely gift for a new baby. I do need the wadding and the backing fabric still. I'd also like to buy some purpley/lilacy colours to intersperse with the pink to make a really beautiful pinky/purple baby quilt. I know about 100 pregnant people at the moment so I'll never be stuck for someone to give them away to.

Then I'll need to buy the boy colours for baby boy quilts too! This is turning into an expensive hobby! MrsB, its not really expensive, you can use fabric offcuts or cheap fabric from the charity/cut off from the fabric shop. Its only 'cos I'm making gifts that I've gone a bit to town!

awww a memory quilt would be a lovely idea. I might look into doing something like that.

That's what I'm practising for - my children's memory quilts made from their clothes - yay, can't wait!
