i know you are not supposed to eat peanuts if you or your partner has/has had hayfever (OH suffers with it) or Exzema (i suffered with it as a child) - and i have just ate a Tracker bar and onlyt just realised it may have peanuts in it, read it,and yes, it had peanuts in it!! im fretting now!!!! will baby be ok???????

don't panic - it is only a theortetical risk that of you eat lots of peanuts (one or two really not gonna make a difference) and you have a family tendency to allergic conditions then when your LO is a child they MIGHT be at an increased risk of beign allergic to peanuts....

a lot of the evidence is now suggesting the opposite and that not eating peanuts while pregnant and breastfeeding may make it more likely!

either way - don't worry - you have done no harm

"Analysis of the infants' umbilical cord blood showed that there was no evidence of peanut allergy at birth, suggesting that peanut allergy develops after birth. This research found no link between maternal consumption of peanuts during pregnancy and breastfeeding and the development of peanut allergy by the children. However, peanut allergy was found to be associated with eczema and rashes in early infancy, particularly where preparations containing peanut oil had been applied to the skin of infants with oozing and crusting rashes" from http://www.food.gov.uk/science/research ... st/t07001/

I would have thought you would be ok with just having one topic. If you look through the internet there's conflicting stories about whether pregnant women should have peanuts or not anyway.

some researchers say that since pregnant women have been advised to avoid peanuts the cases of children who are allergic has risen very sharply becasue they are not having any contact with them in the uterus and are threfore not builing up an immunity to them and are allergic when they are born.

My MW said to me that they should be safe to have in small quantites even if me or DH were allergic to them.

If you're worried give your MW a ring and ask her advice because I think they all have different theories

oh thank goodness smile - i know i was probably overreacting but its just i have got a bit of tummy ache and was sooo scared it was to do with eating peanuts!

 it definately won't have caused your tummy ache :) take care.xx

 awww hun try not to worry a little bit like that will certainly not hurt your baby xxxxxxxx

Personally I think it's a load of rubbish. I've been eating peanuts all the way through my pregnancy and will continue to, even though I have exzema and OH has hayfever.

You do tend to fret alot yes lol

I remember reading an article that said that since they started advising against peanuts, allergies have risen. My mum ate loads of nuts when she was pregnant with all 3 of us and none of us have nut allergies, or any other food allergies.

But it's upto you wether you choose to avoid peanuts or not, I mean it wouldn't hurt to avoid them for a few months if it's puts your mind at rest, but I certainly wouldnt worry if you accidently ate some.

Babe don't stress it honestly  eczema is genetic so if u had it as a baby then chances are little one may get it...my son got it I've had life long eczema - my son is allergic to nuts but not peanuts.. it'll be what it'll be ya know :) xxx best thing to boost little one's immune system is breastmilk when its born eh ;)
Pickin up on Jodie's point.. there are an awful lot of things you "can't have cos you're pregnant" and it sucks and i think the paranoia about peanuts is just that really.... some of the "can't haves" are sensible but the peanut thing seems silly to me as does not eating prawns cos might get a bad one - you got enough to worry about without worryin about peanuts xxxx

Goin back to my son.. i ate peanuts through the entire pregnancy cos was vegetarian for a lot of it then pescatarian as craved fish.. anyways.. charlie has very very mild eczema which is more dairy related than to do with peanuts.. i took him off formula at 4 months because he was covered head to toe in eczema...and put him on full fat goats milk - his head to toe eczema cleared almost straight away.. health visitor was horrified n tried very hard to give me a script for steroid creams - i ripped it up in the clinic and told her to sod off ;) I see so much these days that is designed to scare young mums and it really annoys me in all honesty.. cos there is no need to worry women when they are already really vulnerable.. n the peanut thing is a load of rubbish in my humble opinion xxxxxxx

OH was being paranoid and not letting me eat peanuts as I have hayfever and eczema

Until I asked my midwife yesterday and she said it would be fine to have a snickers bar... so I did :cheer: And it was lovely :)

Peanut allergies appear to be more common nowadays although I'd rather my bubs was given the chance to build up an immunity to them before birth.

Obviously the first time we let him try a peanut, we might sit outside an A&E just in case ;) But I think I'd do that regardless of whether I had allergies or not :rotfl:

I've eaten peanuts a few times! Firstly before I found out about the whole peanut thing I had been giving in to mass Satay Chicken and Peanut Butter on toast cravings! I've not had so much since, but I haven't deliberately avoided them either.

If i remember correctly we are the only country in Europe to advise AGAINST eating peanuts - YET we have the HIGHEST allergy rates in Europe.

Really don't worry! It's all a load of cobblers! Lol. xxxx

 I still eat nuts too not like sitting eating a huge bag of KPs or anything but I wouldn't avoid it in stuff like cereal bars. It surprising how much you do eat with nuts and stuff in that you don't realize till after. I think if your babes going to get a allergies then It will happen most people have a allergies to something nuts or not.

Hi This is the first time i have posted so thank you for giving me the courage to finally post as I thought i may be of some help here. :D
Just thought i would add this.
I didnt eat any nuts of any sort when expecting my daughter and she has a nut allergy. I guess its just one of those things. I dont know what to do this time around....

OH and I have slight eczma and OH has slight asthma and I ate peanuts whilst pregnant with Isaac, I craved Crunchy Nut Cornflakes  and he's got neither and is healthy. There's a belief that abstaining can help but I beleive that could do more harm, you're not giving LO chance to build up antibodies/immunity, but that's my personal opinion. If you're worried just don't eat any more peanuts but I'm sure your baby will be fine after a Tracker bar

Aww hun  Bless you for being so cautious... Don't worry though hun, I personally think the stupid advice we get half the time is being WAY too OTT!! :wall:

As long as you're not eating raw eggs and gone off meat I'm sure you'll be fine lol   xxx
