I'm looking for experiences really. My two year old spent all day yesterday with his 9 year old cousin. He (my nephew) was feeling unwell but we didn't think it was anything serious. Anyway he developed a rash today and was taken to the out of hours docs and it turns out its Scarlett Fever.

Apparently it's highly contagious but symptoms don't appear for 2-5 days. I'm thinking my lo will mostly likely get it. We were supposed to be going to a 1st birthday party this afternoon but decided not to go as didn't want to potentially pass it to a bunch of kids. We're supposed to meeting up with a few friends and their kids tomorrow but again don't want to risk it.

My lo is fine and not showing any symptoms yet but just wondered what we should be looking out for? Apparently it's high temp first then rash a few days later. Kinda dreading the wee guy feeling ill. How bad is it for a two year old? My nephew has just been a bit quiet and tired and not interested in doing much. He's been sleeping ok though.

TIA xx

No advice but just wanted to say I really hope your little lad dodges it! Rosie's currently got chicken pox and although she looks horrific she's actually not phased by it - I think she's too young to understand! So hopefully if your lo does get it he will be similar! X

My daughter had this earlier in the year when she just turned one. She had rash, bit of a temp and was generally grizzly for a few days. Was given antibiotics and was fine x

The GP at hospital diagnosed Scarlett fever in my friends little boy

She took him back 3 days later to her GP and that GP plus 1 other confirmed it wasn't that and was a viral rash!

Thanks girls. Holi sorry to hear about Rosie. You're right though, probably best she gets them now and hopefully that's them over with. I'll just keep a keen eye on him. I put him to bed about twenty minutes ago and he's been crying on and off and shouting 'mummy take me down the stairs' lol I don't think he's unwell, just at it!

My 4 year old had this in June. She was very warm first thing in the morning. When I took her pj's off mid morning she had a red rash around her groin which gradually spread upwards. It was an odd rough rash. By mid afternoon it was up to her face and she looked very poorly although felt fine although still hot. We had an alert at preschool about it so I erred on the side of caution, didn't send her and went to the docs instead. With antibiotics and calpol she was OK, although the high temp lasted quite a few days x
