Quick query, my 5 month old has suddenly learnt how to roll over today all the way onto his front. Previously he's been rolling onto his side and sleeping on his side, but now I'm worried he'll roll over onto his front and get stuck, or not be able to turn his head away.

I can currently hear him on the monitor grunting away trying to roll over (he should be sleep!)
He goes to bed at the foot of his bed and in a sleeping bag, although he has previously defied a lot of odds and I've found him the wrong way round at the top of his cot :wall2:

Question is, do I leave him if he sleeps on his front? I know there's no way I can stop him from rolling in his sleep and I can't get up every 5 minutes to check him. He's not one to wake up when he's pooed in his sleep or if he's cold so I can't imagine he'll wake if he's rolled over.

I just left my lo. The first few times he woke himself up doing it but he soon settled! We did have a sensor mat for the monitor so that eased our minds too

Can you not roll blankets up And tuck them beside him to stop him doing the full roll?

I had thought about that but he fidgets a lot and I'd worry he'd get in a muddle. I'll see how we go tonight and might try that tomorrow if he moves

If he rolls over just leave him to it. He's obviously comfortable if he's not complaining is the way I look at it.

My eldest has always been a restless one in his sleep and already my almost three month old has started waking up in weird and wonderful positions in the cot! I think they get it from their dad because he sleep walks.

If they can get themselves in to the position it's fine, the danger is more for a little baby being put on front as they wouldn't be able to roll back if they needed to. If baby is so active in his sleep though I wouldn't advise securing him with towels or blankets etc as it could end up on top of him.

Thank you for the advice ladies. I checked him before I went to bed and he was were he should be and he was the same this morning when he woke up. I think I'll just leave him to it, he seems happy enough to be on his front, I just get paranoid but need to remember he's a lot stronger than he was when he was a newborn.
