Does anybody have any magic solutions for having to rock the baby to sleep?! Fin will only go to sleep if he is being pushed in his buggy or rocked in his chair. It really is tiring doing this every time he wants to sleep. :?

ooh, i saw something on dragons den, will get back with a link x

I would personally try to get him to go to sleep without bein pushed...

I know my mum said when i was little i used to have to be patted on the bum to get me to sleep and she was still doin it when in was 18 months old...

so i would try to get out of the habit sooner rather than later

Hope that helps

Have you tried a sling? Ruby ALWAYS falls asleep when I am carrying her around in hers...you can get on with stuff while he gets sleepy??

emily falls asleep in her sling too

ive also seen rocking things you put the pram on and it rocks it to mimmic walking

Thanks for your suggestions. I was more thinking of getting out of the habit of rocking! I have a swing which is great but I would love for him to be able to fall asleep on his own. I guess this will take time. :?

Ellis was the same when younger.... I got him sleeping by cutting the rocking down in time.

I would stand by the cot when it was bed time and rock... counting to 120 in my head then 2 nights later take it down 5 or 10 secs..... took a while but he will sleep without rocking now. Just will not sleep without me being in the room :wall: :wall: hehe xxxxxxxx

If possible it would be best to start putting him down to fall asleep on his own because if you don't he will always expect to be rocked to sleep before he is put in to his cot. I used to put Jake down asleep and at around 3 1/2 months I decided to try putting him down awake. It worked from the first night. I think the first night I put him down at about 10pm and I had to go in to the room twice to give him his dummy and then he was asleep for the night. I gradually started putting him down earlier and earlier and for a couple of months now he has been going to bed at 7pm and sleeping through until about 6am or sometimes longer.

I want to be able to put him to sleep without rocking but can't bear the crying as he gets really upset. In the evening he feeds to sleep and again, he won't go into his cot awake. I can't seem to reassure him any other way but to pick him up. How long do you let them cry for?

Does Finley have a dummy? Try putting him down with his dummy in if he has one. If he cries just try and comfort him by rubbing his head or something and then leave the room. If Finley carries on crying just keep going in every few minutes and comforting him again quickly (put his dummy back in if he has one). I would let this carry on for about 20 mins or a bit longer if he seems to be settling a bit and then crying again so you know he is tired. If it doesn't work maybe just try again the next day. Has he got a grobag to sleep in? Jake settles better in his grobag better than he ever did with sheets or blankets and I think when I put him in it now he associates it with bed.

He doesn't have a dummy but has a grobag, they're great! Today I realised he will fall to sleep with others so much easier than with me. Good old Mummy and her milk is a distraction I reckon! Unless he is just tryin it on lol.

Hi only just seen this!

How's it going now? Is Finlay falling asleep on his own yet? If so how on earth did you manage it?!

I ask as we are having the same problem with Brody. From day one he wouldn't fall asleep unless he was rocked to sleep then put down. :(

We try all the time to see if he'll go down on his own but he literally screams until we pick him up then he takes even longer to get to sleep as he's got himself all worked up :wall:

He won't have a dummy either so it's hard!

oran is the same nearly

while he doesnt need rocking to sleep as such he wont go down awake, he screams and crys proper tears which is so sad and with just having a 1 bed apt its hard to leave him - he will only go to sleep on me or daddy then he gets put down in his basket and he stays asleep.

If/When we get a house, I would probably try the letting them cry thing but we just cant do it where we are (but would it even work?)
