Hi

I know this has been asked before but I'm asking for ME specifically.

Please help! I am really confused!

My needs are:

VERY quick drying nappy (I have no tumble dryer)
I want a two part nappy (the only all in one I would consider are bumgenius but I'm not sure if they fit the quick drying criteria)
I want to use disposable liners
I don't have lots of money but I still want to buy the right one so even if you suggest top of the range I will probably buy from ebay.

I have seen the Tots bots fluffle. What is your opinion on that particular nappy? Would you suggest having a mixture of nappies...like some fluffle and some others?

Now this is my first baby and I don't even know how to change a nappy LOL seriously....

I have so much to learn, what would I do without this forum?

Do you think I should buy disposables for when the baby is first here and then try out different nappies? Or take the plunge and get a set of nappies?

hi hun.. we are working on a how do you put them on video.. its really easy.. personally i would buy one pack of newborn eco nappies (kinder to the environment) for the babies 1st poos as they are like tar.. then switch to washables.. washables have many many benifits.. here are a few..

kind to your pocket..from birth to 2 years (most babies potty train after this age i might add) you spend 2k on disposables..

those disposables take 15 years to decompose each!! so they are terrible on the environment

where as washables can be reused through more of your babies or sold as pre loves for around half price of what you bought them for.

washing and tumble drying, electricity ,water and detergent plus wear and tear on your machine in 2 years averages out at £120 for 2 years

a range or nappies from birth to potty nappies are about £300

you dont need to soak them, just rince off the poo down the toilet with a shower or flush the loo and hold on tight to the nappy.. and then put them in the nappy pale, when washing time comes chuck them in the machine for a rince/ cool prewash (we use wool wash as our machine doesnt have a cool prewash) then add half the amount of normal wash detergent (no fabric conditioner) or you can use bold 2-in-1, peg out or radiator dry and your done. it really is that easy! hoestly there are no catches!

so you will save over £1500, and you are saving the environment.

now for nappies, a shapped nappy with a booster is the best for quick drying abilities. bamboo nappies take about 1 and a half times longer than a cotton nappy to dry.. and i dont find them any more absorbant.

our nappies will dry on a cool windy day in around 8 hrs.. on a warm day about 7 and on a hot day in 4. on the radiator i would say about 6 hrs..if you have the booster system you have the material there for absorbtion.. but the ability to dry faster. well done for considering cloth, it is a healthy, cheap addictive way to go. personally i cant see why more people dont use them. they have no down falls in my eyes.

It does sounds like a microfibre option (like the Fluffle) may be best for you. They are dry as soon as they come out the wash practically! They are not as absorbant as others but a booster for nighttime would sort that out. I've got a *feeling* I heard something about Totsbots re-designing or discontinuing the current Fluffle design tho :?

Disposable liners can be picked up everywhere (even Boots) and are cheap enough. We use them too. :)

I have always found two-part systems more reliable than pockets/AIO's but every baby's different.

If you don't have a lot of moey consider other ways to buy too. Ebay is good but there are lots of forums/saleboards around. PM me if you want some info. Also, don't be afraid to suggest them for pressies. We were blessed wih a lot of family and friends wanting to buy stuff for Stanley, and as he was a few months old at Christmas I asked people to buy him a nappy! Older generations seem to love the idea particularly. :)

Now this is my first baby and I don't even know how to change a nappy LOL seriously....

Search on Youtube, there's vids! Don't worry, pretty soon you'll be doing it in your sleep (literally, at 3am  )

Do you think I should buy disposables for when the baby is first here and then try out different nappies?

This is how we did it and I was happy with that, as reliable wraps in particular were tricky to find, so we tried all sorts. The beauty of these nappies is they have a geat re-sale value, so I traded the ones that never suited. Most of our collection is now Motherease as we liked them best and the wraps are bomb-proof!

Good luck choosing, it's such fun and can be addictive! Feel free to pm me for any more info xxx

i took my bumgenius pockets out of the wash before bed and they are dry this morning. - the inserts are microfibre so dry very quickly.

Im not keen on two parters myself.

Im a big lover of Bumgenius and they dry in no time. Even hubby prefers them :D

Thanks everyone for this info!

Hmmm lots to think about...

As for nappy changing, I just got a book from amazon - the contented baby's first year - its a great little book and explains everything. :D

I have to say bumgenius look great but I suspected they'd take forever to dry.

Little Lamb do a mircofibre nappy too - they are nearly dry when they come out the washer. I don't have a drier either

No the Bumgenius is a pocket nappy so the outside dries in no time and the inside is microfibre and that also doesnt take long to dry :D

Yes...I saw the microfibre little lamb nappy - they look really good

Bumgenius - they look like either one size or lots of sizes...
The onesize nappies are not as good are they? If I went for bumgenius it seems I'd never stop buying them for the sizes.

The little lamb have only two sizes which is workable since you can sell the smaller ones when you have to buy size 2

Exactly what I am going to do I think - or might just keep them incase I have another ;)

one size nappies are ok.. but you need a booster with them..i dont like microfiber nappies as they arent as absorbant later on.. or if you have a heavy wetter..i think its a bit of a myth that nappies take aggeess to dry.. they dont.. if you have them on the radiator they dry in no time.. on the line they are dry in the day.. tbh.. im not the type to keep going out to hk the washign to see if its dry.. i say my nappies dry in 8 hrs but i think thats coz i leave them out for the whole day lol..

OMG I just did an impulse buy!!!

I saw a good deal on Tots Bots Bamboozles - 20 x plus 5 wraps, plus boosters x 10, plus 2 x motherease wraps- they are used but look good

for £60 including postage so I bought them!

Please tell me thats a good deal...I thought it was good because they are £165 on totsbots site (new)

For that price i thought I could supplement them with 10 x microfibre nappies and I'd be sorted.

If they are no use when they arrive I will probably have to sell them on again.

I'm a bugger for impulse buys.

I got size 1

Preloved yeah

Of course I will be checking the quality when they come. The woman selling them claims they've been used for 4 months

My only worry is the aplix / velcro and whether they are still sticky enough.

I will probably invest in some nice quality ones to supplement them...just a few

Dawn :D
