I'm looking for some recipe book recommendations that have some basic homecooked meals like casserole, lasagne, hotpot, pie crust and other simular meals. We are looking to reduce the amount that we spend on our weekly shop by making more whole cooked foods and using a meal planner so any recipies/meal ideas that you have would also be great :D

Thanks :D

WOW its so quiet on here today!!
No worries, off to the library I pop! :D x

One of the best books re cooking meat dishes probably is Hugh Fearnley Withingstall's "MEAT". It also has a section about being thrifty with food and how to turn leftovers into something really nice. And it's very well written and interesting, as it also has a lot about how to best source food and what the labels mean.

Oh, and you can't beat Delia's Complete Cookery Course (not that cheaty crap, but the classic one) It's full of really good home-cook stuff and I use it a lot (even though I almost burned it in anger at her selling out with the cheaty crap)

I have this

I usually hate Jamie Oliver, but this is a good book full of basics.

To save buying a book tho, just search online for recipes

Unfortunatly I have a cook book addiction, I have about 50

The best ones I've got for basic cooking are

River cottage family cook book (explains everything with clear step by step instructions. All recipes in it have been cooked by children but the content is good for adults too)
http://www.amazon.co.uk/River-Cotta...=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&s=books&qid=1219598525&sr=8-1

Good housekeeping step by step cookbook, lots of stuff like casseroles, stews, pie (and everything else for that matter)
http://www.amazon.co.uk/Good-Housek...=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&s=books&qid=1219598561&sr=1-2

Mary Berry's books are excellent, she has a fantastic way of explaining things simply (if you ever want to make cakes her cake cook book are the BEST!). Heres her complete cook book
http://www.amazon.co.uk/Mary-Berrys...=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&s=books&qid=1219598701&sr=1-1

Anyway those are the ones I turn to for everyday cooking inspiration, I've never really liked Delia's recipes so I don't have any of her books but she does explain simple techniques well
