Do you have to lie down and not get out of bed once you're on gas & air?

I'm asking because that's what I was told 12 years ago, that once I had gas & air I couldn't get out of bed and move around because I might fall. As a result I had to do all my labour face up in bed, and it was very uncomfortable.

I'm not sure if it depends on the policy of where you are when you give birth...but I could have sworn I saw an episode of one born every minute where a woman gave birth standing and using gas and air. I've used it before (not for birth) and it made me a bit dizzy, but that cleared up v quickly when I stopped using it, so I could imagine being able to move a bit whle using it. Sorry if this wasn't much help.

I used gas and air (amazing stuff btw!) on the birthing suite, I had it sat in a chair and then in the pool where I was knelt but did stand too, also stood holding rope type thing so yes you can stand! It makes you feel spaced out but I wouldnt say my legs felt wobbly or anything, I would love a gas and air device at home lol xx

I used gas and air and was free to move around. I gave birth at edge of bed on my knees. Being able to move was important to me especially as lo was back to back

No, you can definitely move around and be in the birthing pool etc with it. Times change and midwives know the best position for labour is upright and they wouldn't have no drugs if you were upright xx

I used gas and air for all mines and was never told to stay put. You can walk around as far as it reaches from the wall. My latest was feb 2013 and I started the gas and air leaning over the bed and walking bout. x

I used gas and air when I was in labour and I didn't have to stay in bed. I spent a good amount of time standing leaning on the bed using the gas and air.
