Hi ladies, my baby is 15 weeks old and i have just started to wean him in the last few days. Yesterday and the day before i gave him a small piece of mashed banana mixed with baby rice and his normal formula milk. Before this i just gave him the rice but i thought it looked and tasted so bland i decided to liven it up a bit.....since i did his poo has got strange black bits in it. The colour and consistancy is still the same and i can only describe these black bits as looking like little bits of black cotton thread :? . I'm a bit concerned....is this normal??

Haven't had it yet as I haven't introduce more than a grain of rice sized bit of banana but these was a thread on here a while ago which said that banana causes this. Are you sure about weaning your LO so young? I must admit I have started Ellie already, I started at 4months but I am aware I am going against the official advice which is to wait until 6months.

I wondered if it was the banana but thought i would ask just in case

Nicky... i didn't really want to start weaning until at least 16 weeks but Alfie was born weighing 10lb 3oz and is now 18lb 7oz. For the past few weeks he is waking every 2 - 2 and a half hours wanting feeding. I spoke to my HV about it and she said try and wait to 16 weeks but if things get bad you have to go with your instinct. My instinct is he really needs something substansial inside him, he has a lot of weight to support and i don't think his milk is doing it for him anymore.

Wow - definitely a big baby and I don't blame you for introducing solids. When I last weighed Ellie 2 weeks ago she had only just broke the 1 stone barrier.

my Alfie is almost 14 wks hun and weighs 15lb now but wants feeding 48oz a day, must be Alfies's! i dont think you have anything to worry about with his poo there was a thread which said banana does do that

Thanks ladies... i'll try and find that thread.
fingerscrossed...I was just thinking yesterday while scrolling through some threads how much my Alfie looks like your Alfie...adorable (biased of course) :D ! Especially in that pic with his hood over his head. I'll have to try and post a pic him soon, once i've worked out how to do it.
