lol only joking hehe but anyone who knows anything about wine i would like your help.

i won a bottle of 2007 pinot grigio blush today at work. i dont rele drink wine nor does my boyf; as its millie's birth year i said i might save it for her 18th birthday coz i thought all wines got better with age. my team leader said not all wines do, though. it doesnt say on the label to drink within 6 months. does anyone kno if itll keen for 17 years?

Pinot Grigio doesnt keep that well as far as I know.... but then it never last long in my house!!

I think red wines are prefered to last and mature more

Sorry, but I think it's not worth it, if you're lucky she'll have an average bottle of vinegar in 18 years.

If you want to get a bottle to keep for that long, it's best to talk to a specialist wine merchant, as it's more than the colour which determines what makes a good keeper, it's a mixture of grape, fermenting method, year of harvest etc etc. It indeed is usually more red grapes than white, as Sarah says, but there's more to it.

thanx sarah... will drink it then! :D

sorry widowwadman i didnt make myself clear, it doesnt say that on the bottle, my team leader says sometimes it does, but it doesnt, so i wasnt sure!

Ahhh, I would drink and enjoy it now! You have two options if you want a bottle for her eighteenth; as said before, talk to a wine specialist and buy a bottle now on advice of an expert...with the dangers of moving the bottle if you move, breaking it...etc. Eighteen years is a long time. Best to start looking for something a year before her birthday that has been aging all this time, buy a good reserve then. It will be a bit pricey, but maybe you should save a bit for it in advance?

Sorry, I misread your post, realised my mistake and went back to edit hoping nobody would have seen it yet. Apparently I was too slow ;)

Enjoy your wine. I'd love a glass (not neccessarily of Pinot Grigio, but a heavy oaked Bordeaux would do me. Ah well, 10 weeks to go....)

than guys, i drank it! well i drank a full coke glass (2x 330ml coke glasses half wine and half cherryade so one full glass in total!) OMG i was drunk! lol i am such a lightweight! one advantage to lightweightedness (apart from not costing much to get merry lol) is that coz it dont take much to get me drunk i dont get a hangover coz i havent drunk enough to be "poisoned"! so i get the fun without paying the price  i was pondering on getting out of bed at 2am and coming on here drunk typing, so glad i didnt! lol wouldve been rather embarrassing hehe

Oooh - trixi, can I crash your post?

I was given a bottle of Lanson pink champagne for DD's 1st birthday - its in a beautiful pink jacket and I was hoping to keep it for her 18th. Is this possible, does anyone know? Or a waste?

Glad you got a bit tiddly on your free wine trixi!

We had a very nice surprise in the way of aged Roses...

On the 4th of July a few weeks ago, we opened a bottle of 1982 Lanson Rose which had been stored in the family cellar for about 20 years.

The best Champagne experience. Ever. And yes, we were all shocked.

Found this on http://www.letstalkwine.com/topic.asp?TOPIC_ID=2785

However, the caveat always is how good the year of vintage was. Might be worth asking the guys over there, though

Thank you widowwadman, that's brilliant to know.
