Hi ladies,

I am 29 weeks pregnant and have just been told that i am a carrier of GroupBStrep. This is REALLY worrying me> Very paranoid that my baby will catch the bacteria from me during labour....

Anyways...Iv read that probiotics and prebiotic tablets are great for adding good bacteria to your body and can really benefit unborn babies. Iv searched the internet for any pregnant probiotics...but cant seem to find anything for pregnancy.

Is there anyone out there who takes/knows of probiotic supplements//tablets which I can take?

Im really keen to get started on these so any help/info would be great.

I know good bacteria is foundin live yoghurt etc...but I couldnt eat this.

Thanks ladies. xxx

Hi hun I also have group b strep. I was worried at first, but now I try to look at it as a positive thing; we know about it and will be monitored very closely! Whereas most women won't know about it until in labour/baby born.

I have been told the only thing to do is to go straight into hospital when your waters break/contractions start and get given the iv antibiotics. Im not sure on anything else, but I am under the care of fetal medicine specialist (for other reasons) and I trust their advice on this explicitly and I'm sure we will be ok xxx

Hi Claire,

I was also a carrier of group B strep & probably still am (will be tested at approx 20 wks)

The worst did happen with my son and he did contract the virus, he had to go SCBU for about 5 hrs after birth, but he is the happiest healthiest boy, now 3 1/2 yrs old!!

The mw said to me that next time (meaning now) you can also put a clove of garlic, with a thread put through it and insert into you like a tampon from 2nd trimester.

Apparently garlic also kills off most of the bacteria! not pleasant but I am willing to try anything!! It was very very traumatic and scary at the birth with my son.

no not heard of pregnancy safe probiotics, maybe you need to contact some manufacturers and ask them?
I love live yoghurt so wil be eating plenty of that now!!

Good luck! xxx

Do you just not like it or you cant have lactose? If it's just that you don't like it you could try to sneak it into other foods or milkshakes/smoothies.

I was GBS positive with my last pregnancy and have yet to be tested for it this time. I was told that when your water breaks you are put on an IV and it's unlikely that baby will have any issues. :) Here they told me I had 18 hours before they would be concerned after my water broke and would have to do a c section at that point (which they had to do for other reasons on me anyways in the end). Recently here (I'm in Canada but had no luck with Canadian forms lol) they have changed things and let women labor as long as they feel well enough and are hooked up to an IV with antibiotics I've been told... apparently because the risk is quite low for the baby. :)
