I was wondering if anyone has any advise on prams!!! I am quite a silly person and cant understand half the things they do!!

Anyway I have been looking at the Quinny Buzz 4 wheel, I just dont want to but something and baby be out of it within a few months. Anyone got any advise they can give a first time mum to be

xx

in my case it had to be light weight (as I have some stairs), and compact when closed as it has to fit into a small car boot. I made sure to choose a safe one and it's a brand I trust.

I don't really knowmuch about prams either as this is 1st baby...all i know is mine needs big wheels to cope with the stairs in my building and so baby doesn't feel every bump and I want her facing towards me. I think it depends how much you're going to need to use the pram and what sort of accessories you need it to come with and if you want it to be used as a car seat as well etc. then shop around for the one that matches what you need it to do. I know a lot of prams can be used as a push chair when baby gets to that stage by changing things around on it so you get far more use of of it.

Sorry can't be more helpful xxx

Main points I can suggest for a pram/pushchair for baby are as follows:-

Lightweight...so important especially when lugging in and out of car and on/off public transport if you use it.

Steering, must be easy to steer!

Easy to put up, not too complicated. A stressful pram will make a stressful mummy!

Long shelf life, something that will accomodate newborn through to toddler that is comfortable at all stages.

That to me is the main things you should consider from my experience, prams can be so pricey so try as many out as you feel necessary you will find one that will suit you.

You need to make a list of exactly what you want.........for example my criteria was:

Must be all terrain, as I do a lot of walking with my dog.
Must be easy to steer
Must be easy to put up and down
Must have an adjustable height handle - as both me and DH are tall
Must be sturdy and well built

Must have a compatible car seat (ie you can take the car seat straight out of the car with baby in and fix to pushchair chasis)
The compatible car seat must have an optional fixed base (preferably isofix) - these are the large bases that are permanently fixed in your car, so the car seat just clicks onto them, and you dont have to attach the car seat with the seat belts everytime which would have annoyed me no end! I use the car every day!!
Ideally comes with a carry cot, so baby can lie flat until older

In the end after a lot of searching we went for the Icandy Apple Jogger........it has everything we need, although not the cheapest on the market - the Maxi cosi car seat is also fully compatible with it, and comes with a carry cot!!

What ever you buy go and have a look and make sure if it comes with a car seat that the car seat actually fits your car - I ended up having to change my car as only one car seat was compatible with it!!!!

EllieBelle - your list of criteria sounds the same as mine (except i need an adjustable handle because I'm short and DH is tall  ). I'm going to see the Apple Jogger at Christmas. I've also got the Jane Slalom Pro Strata travel system on my short list and wondered if you had any thoughts on that one as a comparison?

Lillyblue - have fun shopping around and try out lots of different ones to see which fits your needs.

I hope I can have some fun shopping my OH gets so stressed!!! :(

Jaidy what did you buy last time if you dont mind me asking!

Does anyone have a quinny and have any pros and cons regarding this pram?

this is mine but a different colour (brown and red)

I initially went to the shop to test drive the Jane Slalom Pro as on paper had fallen in love with it.........we quickly learnt that it doesnt have any fixed base for the car, so you have to use seatbelts to attach the car seat. The assistant was experienced with putting all of the seats in and out of cars and the Jane carseat was a nightmare, you would really need to take the baby out of the seat before fitting it in the car - not great if trying to fit it in the middle of tescos carpark :D . I knew I would have been fed up with it in no time!!

Hence the Icandy won as fully compliant with the maxi cosi car seat, and we now have the isofix base for it too - so its a case of click and go!! They are both a similar price!! Hope that helps :D

Oh and be warned the Icandy can take a few mins to conqueur the collapsing process, but once you grasp it, you get it every time :D

I have had my eye on this pram for ages too, much cheaper on these sites.

Going to get the urban colour waiting till after xmas, mate has one and says is brill!

As I mentioned to "meandthebump" just be warned that the car seat can be very difficult to fit into your car, and to fix it into my car we would have had to take the baby out of it!! It can only be fitted with seat belts and not a fixed base like many of the other brands of car seat, and was so fiddly - having a fixed base was not something I ever thought about, or even knew about until my husband raised the question whilst we were out pram shopping!!! The Jane was top of my list until we saw the car seat being fitted and then decided on something else as we use the car so often!!

Just think of every situation thats important to you before investing :D

I was initially drawn to the Mamas and papas pliko 3 in 1 but for £500 its a bit steep especially having to buy the extras, so I think i might go for the chicco trio for me now, it looks like it does all i want, and faces me as a stroller too. Comes with carseat and base, carrycot, raincover and if shopping around can be bought for about £340 rather than the mothercare price of £500! Theres a lot of pram for the money too!
