Postpartum Hemorrhage!

I've been told that because I'm carrying twins, the risks of me having post partum hemorrhage is high regardless of if I deliver via vbac or cesarean.

Has anyone experienced massive blood loss after delivery? Is it easy to treat or are the odds of it leading to more serious results (i.e hysterectomy, cardiac arrest, etc.) ending in ICU or worse more common?

What are the success rates for treatment? I really would not like to bleed to death!

I had 2 pphs. I lost a major amount of blood and had to go to theatre in an oxygen mask. It was terrifying. However, the fact that they know this is a risk to you is a good thing, as they will be looking out for it and have blood on standby for a transfusion etc xxx

I had one too a week after the birth at home which is apparently unusual. Got taken to hospital by ambulance, had a blood transfusion and went to theatre to have the retained placenta removed which caused it. Stayed in hospital overnight and had iron tablets for a while after which really helped. It was scary and obviously not pleasant but it's a dim and distant memory already and wouldn't put me off more kids in the future. At least they'll be keeping a close eye on you if they know it's a possibility x

Of course post partum hemorrhage can be serious but the majoriy of cases are minor and are easily treated. After my first labour I had blood loss which was just short of being counted as PPH. I didnt recieve any special treatment and felt perfectly fine after, athough the MW was surprised I didnt feel dizzy.

I have suffered haemorrhages during all my labours and needed transfusions at the end of my last pregnancy and then heamorraged severely that if I hadn't had those transfusions before it wouldn't have been good. Saying that, they were prepared and had bloods ready during labour and are aware of the risks this time aswel so keeping close eye on things. It matters that they are aware, they will have everything in place for you. It's scary but you will be in safe hands. Good luck with the delivery of your twins, you will meet them soon enough :) x

Thanks ladies. I managed to deliver the twins via elective cesarean 2 days ago with minimal blood loss so was lucky. Xx

Brilliant news , thanks for updating and huge congrats xx
