gonna just write a quick one here while i still have my midwife notes
its all a bit of a blur to be honest once labour began properly lol
saturday night i was 40+1 and still happily sitting around waiting for ome sign that i might have her soon, was just biding my time til the sweep i had booked for the 17th. my brother came round and we were laughing and joking about a programme on tv, he cracks me up and i was howling with laughter. i started getting mild cramps during that and i was happy ifa bit amused that laughing had kicked off something. i didnt say anything to oh as it was only mild and iregular so i went to bed that night and slept on and off waking every so often to check that i was still contracting. sunday i went to mums for fry up brekkie as usual still contracting away about 5 mins apart lasting for 40 secs. this continued all day and evening and didnt change just got more painful.
at 2am i gave up and rang hospital and went in an hour later to get checked after getting my mum to come and sit in the house incase alyssa wokeup. was 3cma dn they wanted to keep me in as my cervix was thin etc so hubby went home to get some sleep and relieve my mum. i paced the maternity wards dining room all night getting more and more painful contractions but they were still fairly far apart and not doing much just hurting more. it felt like they were pushing baby against my pelvic bone but that they werent moving her any further. at 9am my cocodamol had worn off so i was pacing and having real trouble bearing thru the contractions. mw examined me and said i was 4cm! tbh i was annoyed at how slow it was going but hell as long as i could go delivery and get gas i didnt care then. called hubby in and off i go.
according to my notes i was chilling on the gas merrily contracting away til 11.27, my waters went and all hell broke loose lol, after the waters went i was having no choice but to push a bit with the contractions, it suddenly got really really painful and i said to my oh it felt like she was stuck on my pelvis bone somehow and id end up with a section, told the mw i couldnt help pushing and she went to check me for the first time since going to delivery and she did a sweep type of thing making sure all the cervix was clear and said i was fully dialated and could push, i was anyway, couldnt help it. it got really painful and i actually shouted out some growly type of grunting noise while pushing that time, mw said i needed to push, someone said to put my leg up and i did and it got pushed a lil higher, there was a click in my pelvis and a pop as baby suddenly shot out from whatever had been holding her up and was born! my oh had the funniest look on his face, they put her on my chest and cut the cord etc then cleaned up and delivered the placenta while i held her and i passed her to oh while i got sorted out and comfy then we had skin to skin and bf'd her.
notes say first stage was from 9am til 11.27am, second stage (pushing) was til 11.30am (3 minutes) and third stage (placenta delivery) was til 11.38am so bloody fast delivery lol i think i took the mw by surprise a bit but the clever woman was planning on going for a tea break but didnt trust to leave me for the time it took and its a good job she didnt lol. we also had a lovely male medical student called Tom helping out.
