PM sitting in outbox?

I have tried to do a pm but it says it is sitting in the outbox although in the outbox screen it says it has went but not in the sent items.

Do they stay in the outbox for a while before they move to sent? I am confuddled by the new technology

that means the person hasnt read it yet, when they read it, it will go to sent items
