Perfect Prep Machine Quantities?

Hi

Not sure if this will make sense but here goes! We have the TT Perfect Prep machine and for example, if we set the machine to make 4 ounces and put the right amount of powder in for 4 ounces, once it has added it's hot shot of water and then the cooled water the bottle reads that it has 5 ounces in it.

So basically, I get an "extra" ounce of milk than I wanted. I have googled like mad and it seems that there's loads of people saying this all over other forums and on the Amazon reviews etc.

Apparently, once the formula is added to the water it thickens the water thus giving a higher quantity. Surely though the machine should adjust the water so that you get the amount of ounces you ask for?

If you accept that this happens then do you say your baby's taking 4 ounces or 5 ounces? Does this happen with the good old kettle method?

Hopefully someone will know what I'm talking about  x

The powder displaces the water, so adding the powder will increase the level overall, but if you've got 4oz of water, it's a 4oz bottle. If you've asked it to dispense 4oz of water, the machine will dispense 4oz of water. The machine couldn't possibly adjust the amount of water according to the powder - different formula has different consistency and weight.

I'd say your baby is still taking 4oz. The same happens if you make it up yourself as per the instructions of making a feed - 4oz of water plus 4 levelled scoops will make the overall feed level go up to 5 ozs.

As the others have said, it's still 4oz of water, 4 scoops of formula. If you make it up with a kettle, you'd still get 5oz cus its the volume of the formula moves the line up when added to the volume of the water :)

Same thing happens when using the kettle hun. I have a perfect prep for new baby but used good old kettle and aptamil formula with my daughter and had exact same thing happen x

Thanks ladies! He's looking for 5ounces now but when I saw the milk coming to the 6ounce mark it started DH telling me he was now in 6oynces and so I had to sort it out once and for all! x

Oh good point about the powder! Didn't think of that! I've been getting an extra ounce too so I freaked and have been letting it fill to four ounces and Then hitting the button to stop it early. Maybe I shouldn't then..

Lol I have been tempted to do that. It doesn't help that the machines instructions tell you to discard the milk if you get a higher quantity.

I've now confused myself over how many ounces he's had if he leaves some i.e if I make a 5oz bottle and the PP makes "6" in the bottle and he leaves 1oz in the bottle, has he had 4oz or 5oz...?x
