Hiya
I've only just got in so I'm knocking up a quick spag bol with Tesco pasta sauce. Has anyone given their baby pasta sauce out of a jar yet?
I've been buying Peter Rabbit stuff so far but I've got a great big pot of this stuff and I'm wondering whether to give Brody some.

It's a massive jar and it says that 1/6 of the jar contains 0.9g of salt. Is that a lot?

Babies should only have 1g of salt a day I think so by the sounds of yeah it is hun. DSaying that I gave Damien Smash and spagetti shapes yesterday - bet that was a terrible thing to give him but he seemed to like it!

I have given Rubie a bit of Dolmio and she was ok. I didn't know they were only allowed 1g a day so thanks for that!

Found this info on babycentre....

You should not add salt to your baby's food in the first year as this may damage her kidneys. In the first six months of life your baby needs less than 1g of salt per day, which she will usually obtain from breastmilk or formula milk. Between seven and 12 months this increases slightly to around 1g. Toddlers aged one to three years need less than 2g (this is the equivalent of 0.8g sodium per day).

I always give Aimee pasta sauce but I use the healthy eating one so don't know if thats any better? She loves it though!

I decided to set a bit aside (like a tablespoonful) to mix with mash tomorrow for him.

Thanks ladies!

i asked my HV this a while ago apperently it is ok for them to have it but if it does have high salt water it down a bit

I made spag bol a while ago and made extra for Katie using Dolmio, it never occured to me about the salt content!!! feel awful now. :(

It's so confusing, as when Katie had her six month check the HV pracitially told me off for not giving her any meat in her diet and said she could eat the same as us, I am vegetarian so i try to give her the same as my husband.

Em xx

don't know about the sauce s i haven't considered it yet and i mainly cook stuff myself. it's probably ok if it's just a bit though, and not like every day!

i bought MR Mash instead of Smash for those "lazy, can't be bothered to cook"-days - it has NO added salt at all, so it's great, just dehydrated potato flakes. i think it tastes better than smash too, i just add salt, pepper and a knob of butter for my own portion.

When Phil and I have spag bol, we use Dolmio light. Most of the time Lydia eats what we eat, so she's had spag bol quite a number of times. I never thought about the salt to be honest. I am rather mindful of things like gravy, but I never thought of pasta sauce
