Hello,

I've got my antinatal classes booked for July. I just wondered whether OHs or birthing partners generally go. If this is usual, I'd like my OH to be there but I don't want to drag him along only to find that he is the only man in a room full of panting women (sorry - how I imagine the classes)...he would not be happy with me!

Yes..i'd say most OH's go.
When I went to my first one my husband couldn't make it due to work so I went on my own. Everyone had their OH there except me and a girl who had her mum.
:D

Mine was a day long class and OH came... most of the women there had partners with them. One had her mum and another had her 10 year old daughter but the rest has OHs.

And there was no panting! Lol.

Phew, is there squatting and supporting?!!?!?!?!

I think my OH will come but I've only managed to book on the day courses so he's going to have to take time off work. I'd quite happily go alone but I think he'd secetly like to attend

I do think the evening and weekend classes have more men than the daytime ones.

They didn't do anything like that at mine (Phew!!!!)
we sat in a circle and the midwife showed us things and talked about different aspects of labour etc it was more like a lesson where you got a chance to chat and ask questions.

I'm going just as much for OH as myself, otherwise he'd be sitting playing on the Wii/XBox for hours thinking I was just over reacting or something when the big day comes

Think he still believes the stork will drop our baby off in a few months time!

my fella came with me, and there were loads of OH's there!

We never did all the squattin stuff either!!

but glad OH went, coz some of the stuff went right over my head coz of my ditzy preggy brain and he's remembered a lot of the info!! PHEW!

I have 3 evening classes, one a week- starting next week. My OH tried making me think he only had to come to one so I specifically asked my MW at the last appt and she said they like them to be at all 3!! So glad I asked now and caught him out! I think its really good that he comes as otherwise he wont know whats going on when im in labour so if he does he can help a bit more! I have no idea what happens at them though does anyone else have any experience of having 3 classes?? I've also got a breastfeeding one but hats seperate to these.xx

I didn't see the point in my OH going along to the breastfeeding class. He'd have been bored senseless. Plus no other partners/OH's there either.

Most women had partners with them at the birthing/pain relief class though.

I skipped the other classes altogether.

No my OH isnt coming to the breastfeeding one, that would be  Im just wondering why there are 3 ante natal ones seperate to this that he comes to??xx

My midwife said to bring OH - he's happy cos it means he gets time off work :D

Wow your OH is great midna! Dont think mine's gonna be quite so helpful! Did you go to any workshops on breastfeeding beforehand and did they help??xx

One of my 3 classes are breastfeeding classes and I'm taking my Mum to that! I don't think she'd be bored or anything, I want her to come because I might need a lot of support while breastfeeding and like Midna said, her OH got her baby latched!! :cheer:

Laura, when do yours start? x

My OH went with me to the classes and I'd say its well worth it. It just isn't the same if you go back and tell them the info, its better if they hear it themselves plus its a good way of including them and also preparing them for what may happen.

Also, my OH wanted to go, I don't remember him asking any questions but it may get them thinking!!

my oh came to mines too :D

he really enjoyed them and learned a lot :) he was also a lot more sympathetic to me after them :rotfl:

My 1st one is next weds when I'll be 29 weeks (they say to start at 30 weeks onwards but they said it'd be hit and miss if i left it to the next lot of classes!) I have 3, one each week and then the breastfeeding one in July. Have you booked yours??xx

Mine is Wednesday too!! Where do you live?!
