Hi all,

So I feel really stupid. Went out for a posh meal last night with the hubby - he took me back to where we got married for a birthday surprise! Had an absolutely divine meal. However, for starter I had duck terrine... Didn't think whilst I was eating it, but this morning, my tummy's hurting and I've started to think that patê and terrine are quite similar and patês off the menu on pregnancy... Really scared that I've harmed baby now... I've had a very quick look online and read that problems from eating patê can show themselves even months later. What have I done?! :(

Try not to worry.
Terrine is generally made from chunks of meat and pate often has liver in it, it's different.
You could just be feeling uncomfortable due to the rich food, I think it's really unlikely you've done any harm.

Yes I'm sure everything is absolutely fine. As above, a quick Google says pate is normally made from liver whereas terrine is normally chunkier meat. So many of these rules are probably overkill anyway, plenty of people ate the forbidden foods before they became forbidden foods! Try not to worry about it or you'll just stress yourself out and that's no good for baby either x

I honestly wouldn't worry!! I've had pate, and honestly (flame suit on) I think a lot of the 'bans' are based on the tiniest percentage of a possible issue. Don't forget not to cross a road when pregnant, being run over could harm your baby. You can't avoid everything. If you've had a bigger than usual meal (starter, main, dessert) and food you may not have had for a while or more gluten than usual then it's probably just your system digesting it all that's hurting a little. Relax, unless the pains become severe/you have any bleeding. You'll also get many stretching pains where your body is adjusting too x

I am similarly having a mare about food this weekend.
Yesterday I ate a goats cheese salad.
I know I'm not supposed to have goats cheese but wasn't really aware what the risk was and there was nothing else on the menu I could eat, so I thought, it can't do that much harm, surely.
Looked it up when I got home and read all about listeria.
I think that's might be the issue with terrine as it's cold meats pressed together??

I totally terrified myself and can't believe, despite being pregnant before that I wasn't aware of the food risks.

Sympathise with how you are feeling. I'm sure no harm is done as the risk is very small. But best to avoid certain foods in future.
I will certainly be a lot more careful.

Sending hugs. Xx

I basically lived on pâté and sushi and raw cheese and all those forbidden foods my last pregnancy because that's all I craved. Your baby is 100% fine. Also googling during pregnancy should be against the law. You and baby are fine! Promise!

Apparently sushi is fine if it's pre frozen too! Bonus. I will happily eat pate occasionally. I even let myself have a small glass of wine/half a Guinness once on a Saturday evening. :oooo:

Guiness even used to be recommended didn't it!!

Try not to worry but if it plays on your mind why not call them and ask how and what it is made of.

Thank you for all the reassurance ladies. I know I shouldn't have looked it up but it was playing on my mind so I succumbed!

Elspeth - that's exactly my issue, its the listeria thing thats bothering me. I guess what's done is done now, and luckily it appears fairly rare that people get listeriosis, but there's still that small percentage!

Have tried not to think about it all day and have felt a bit better (although why I'm up writing this at 4.35am is beyond me!)

I honestly don't remember being this paranoid the first time round?!

I ate a full crab at like 8 week with my first because I didn't think. It was all fine. I lived on liver with my second too because I craved blood (weird I know) and it was the closest I could get.
