We've already been told to avoid painkillers if at all possible, but here is new research confirming that pregnant women, especially in the first tri, should avoid them if at all possible, as they increase the risk of miscarriage.

Sorry to put this in off-topic, but I thought everyone should see it. :)

I thought you were only allowed to take paracetamol anyway!!!

my mw and gp told me no painkillers at all durin first trimester not even paracetemol. and only use paracetemol at a push after that if really needed. they sed ibuprofen cnt be used before 6 months and shouldnt be used to often after that and aspirin not at all during pregnancy.

xxxx

I was told NOTHING in T1
Paracetamol only when desperate in T2 & T3

My Dr always said paracetomol was fine throughout pregnany if used according to instructions.

Yes sorry I should've said- I think paracetamol is ok, there's no mention of it in the article.

We are told by midwifes etc as frangelle said, to avoid anything else, but who of us does absolutely everything we're supposed to do? :) There are so many rules to follow in pregnancy, unless you are a really disciplined person (as some of you sound like you are) you have to prioritise avoiding those things which sound the dodgiest :) And any articles like this which motivate us to stick with the programme, are all good :)

Don't you just love the contradictive advice were all given during pregnancy. No wonder there is often confusion on the rights and wrongs, the do's and dont's type thing.

Well, quite! Especially as it appears to have changed so much and so often. My mother-in-law and her mum were amazed at the amount of things I can't have/do compared to when they were pregnant.

Fortunately I haven't needed to take any painkillers so far anyway. And I think I would avoid them if I did. I often deal with headaches by drinking lots of water, massaging my temples and then sleeping it off anyway (I realise this isn't practical at work, though).
