Hi there.... Just a quick question... My little girl is on cow and gate premium... and she has 40z every 3 hours I know thats alot but that is what she takes but the thing is she is screaming theplace down for more every 2- 2 and half hours... and I know she is hungry... I;m so worried that I;m overfeeding her? i know she is still newborn but would it be harmful to put her on hungrier milk?? (cow and gate plus) she is a big girl ( 9lb 1 oz at birth) also she does go longer at night with feeds at leats 4 hours. any advice would be great thanks x x

I don't think you can over feed babies. They just bring back up what they don't need. I'd be tempted to try a milk for hungrier babies if I were you. Or try giving more ounces at once then leave a longer gap between feeds. I found with Isaac if I gave him 3-4oz then winded him loads he could drink another oz or 2. Its just trial and error but I'm sure you won't do any harm. Also babies can get thirsty, maybe try boiled cooled water between feeds.

I dont think giving her hungry baby milk is a good idea at her age. Just try more formula, she should take what she wants and get rid of anything she has over drank.

Some babies do want feeding more regularly, i know Leif did when he was first born, it was anything between every two hours to every 4 hours.

thanks girls when she does drink every two hours she does not bring anything up.... so she is having alot of milk and seems to be fine... I;ii see how she goes over the next week.... I'm making bottles up again tonight...lol so i;ii try the cool boiled water... is it okay to leave the water in room tempreture?

With Isaac's water I used to boil the kettle then fill a bottle and let it cool on the kithen side for a bit before I put it in the fridge then when I wanted to give him a drink I'd poor some into another bottle and add a little just boiled water from the kettle just so it wasn't fridge cold in his tummy when he drank it.

I keep boiled water in a vacuum flask to make up feeds, and use this water also (after cooling) to give as a drink

Thank you... I just did the bottles again...lol and left two bottles on the side... for later... hopefully it will work, its so hard to know what to do, but hopefully we will get there in the end. :D

Hi,
my little girl was a very hungry baby as well. Eventually I put her on hungrier baby milk at about 4 weeks I think because it got to the point where she would finish one bottle and scream for another.

well... i tried the cooled boiled water and she was having none of it!! lol just spat it back out... she wont take a dummy either... so I know that she is still hungry... spoke to midwife this morning and she said to put her on the hungier milk... Lucy had a 40z bottle at 11.30 and another 40z at 1.30... i mean to me that seems quite alot?? midwife also suggested that i give her one cow & gate preium then on the next feed give her cow &gate plus? but thats seems silly... anyway think I;m just gonna put her on the hungier milk and see how we go.

I didnt find the hungrier milk made a lot of difference but I still went with it. See on your tin, go with how much milk she should be getting for her weight rather than her age. I had a 9lb 3 girl and she was a milk fiend as well. No keeping her fed. If she needs 5 oz, give her it.

Good luck

Laura

i put hannah on the hugerier stuff at 2 weeks. Never looked back TBH. Tho be prepared for her to be constipated for a few days... when this happened my midwife told me to give her lots of water. it worked fine.
Shes still on the stuff now with no problems at all.

she was a big baby at birth also.
