After all of the negativety I have read about Gina Ford I didn't want to attempt her routines. I had bought the book in early pregnancy but was put off by feedback from many, many people, it's almost 2 dirty words to mention in some quarters. Anyhoo, I had just about driven myself potty with little Austin, although I have been lucky and escaped sore nips, feeding every 3/4 hours and these sessions were lasting up to 2 and a half hours, was driving me crazy not to mention an average of 2 hours sleep a night (little darling) so I cracked and in desperation 4 days ago I picked up her book once more and attempted what I thought would be the impossible. Well fu*k me, it's worked!! He's following the routines almost to the minute, he goes down to sleep and settles himself, I have a free evening every night and only get up once to feed at night. I'm stunned!!!!

I just wanted to pass my experience on, I think I may just be one of the lucky few, but I have to recommend it to anyone who is going stir crazy with demand feeding - it's worth a try. I'm convinced Austin is getting more milk and mostly during the day.

Wooo hoooo!!!!!!

P.S am going to the pub for a quick drink tonight (very quick) never thought I would be typing that at this stage.

Love you all, soooooooooo nice to find time to browse on here again. Hope to catch up more now.

Due to legal issues currently occurring between Gina Ford and another forum, we would ask that you do not discuss Ms Ford, her methods, books or otherwise, on this forum at any time.

 glad you have found something that has worked for you

Becs, how old is your little one? It's great to try things to see if they work.

I've been trying to follow the Baby Whisperer's EASY routine and it does work to a point. I have realised that Emms needs more daily naps etc. . I have got Gina Ford as well and thought it was a bit strict at 1st, but might go back and read again now!

Hey Loz,

Austin is two and a half months but as he was born early (in hospital for 6 weeks) by 9 weeks his real (corrected age) is three weeks. That probably doesn't help you does it? Either way worth a try. I have to say some things I thought he would not take to he has so it's worth just trying. Although I follow the timings as close to the minute as I can it goes half an hour wrong now and again.

P.S Sorry MODS I forgot no the Gina F thread rule

Could I have worded that in a more complicated fashion?

Oh i have ordered this from Amazon and was thinking of trying some of her techniques if they seemed right for me. Glad you posted that they worked for you (even if you had to be arule breaking rebel to do it!).

Sorry i am jumping over here, trying to inspire my baby to arrive soon.

Nah thats a really old rule, I will get rid of it.

EDIT: done, feel free to talk about her.

Personally I don't like her methods. I believe a baby gets into their own routine in their own time.

Some babies love a routine anyway, so cope really well with GF, some babies on the other hand don't like it at all and it can lead to vulnerable new mums thinking they are doing something wrong as their baby doesn't fit with the book.

I am a Gina Ford Mum. Tom is totally routined-up! He thrives on it and I think he feels a security in knowing what's coming next.

GF is so often misquoted and misunderstood. Her books are not harsh or rigid and she never advocates withdrawing cuddles or causing your baby distress. Her advice is straight-forward and adaptable to suit your baby.

However, I would agree with Urchin that it can set you up for a fall at a time when you're very vulnerable. I'm a perfectionist and found it hard if I didn't follow her routine to a tee. I'd feel like I failed which is not ideal at a time when you need more confidence than ever before.

Part of me regrets ever reading it but the other part is happy that her routines suit Tom and we both know where we are every day.

Read it with an open mind, that's what I'd say.

OH's sister had a baby 2 weeks after DD was born. They follow the routine and their baby sleeps through  However, they don't feel they can go anywhere much during the day as their LO would fall asleep when travelling and she needs to be awake a lot :(

We have decided that lovely as a full night's sleep would be, we'll just let DD set her own routine; feed her if she's hungry, let her sleep if she wants to, play with her if she's awake. OK, so we have to get up once or twice a night to feed her but that seems far less hassle to us than having to remember a routine or restrict activities in order to fit in the routine. And we'd keep forgetting to wake her I'm sure :rotfl:
