I have been reading that it is really important to get lots of omega 3 into your diet in the last trimester as the essential fatty acid is important for the baby's growing brain.

Advice says 2 portions of oily fish a week. But I don't eat fish or meat or want to take fish oil. Instead, I am going down the walnut route.

Does anyone have any idea how many walnuts I should be eating a day or week to ensure my baby is getting it's full quota of Omega 3?

(I just found this article about walnuts, they sound like some sort of magic super food!! http://www.whfoods.com/genpage.php?tname=foodspice&dbid=99)

Hiya hun,

I took the sanatogen pro-natal omega-3 capsules all the way through. They're specially designed for pregnancy. You shouldn't take the normal cod liver oil ones cause it's dangerous for the baby.

Don't know about walnuts.

I did what KJ did and still take them now as I'm breastfeeding (when I remember!)

Hi Happybunny

My mum is a vegan and she looked into this. Apparantly flaxseed oil (linseed oil) is the way to get omega-3 the non-fish way. Don't know if it's suitable to take whilst you are pregnant though, look on the side on the bottle.

I looked at linseed oil but it said to consult Doctor if PG before taking. I'd not be sure of the dosage either

I ended up with these capsules for omega3 Safe for pregnancy as designed for PG women.

Are they big? I know it sounds daft, but OH bought me some Omega 3 capsules, but they were too big for me to swallow, I have a bit of an issue with big tablets.

I do also and find vitamin tablets hard to swallow. The pregnancy ones are really hard work  These are capsules and soft and I've found them ok so far, even though on the big side. Somehow easier to swallow for me.

On the side of the pack they show you the actual size.

I always burp fishy burps after taking these though - yuk! I'm so attractive!
