Hi guys

remember when I posted about the tens machine? well I e-mailed OH with all the details, price, exact make and he went into boots on his way home from work, it is quite a commute so it made sense for him to get it on a friday night rather than him drive 60mile there and back over wkend.

Anyhow, he came home fraught due to traffic and he ...

Got the wrong one, it was a bog standard tens!! He told the lady he needed a maternity one too.

I was so convinced I was going into labour that night and that I needed it I bust into tears and did not stop crying for 1/2 hour. I didn't really blame Oh, it wasn't his fault I told him last min on a friday and that the lady got the wrong one.

I have no tens but might be able to get one tommorow...I am probably still going to be pregnant!

My friend used a normal TENS machine and used it at home till she went to hospital where they found her to be 8cm

Not entirely sure what the difference is, maybe they can get away with charging more if they are labeled "maternity"

hello

we took it back yesterday, the maternity ones have different settings I think....they have them at the hospital but yes the reason was so i could use before but hey ...if i go tonight i will just have to do without...I will get one in the morning, oh is off work so we will drive into town the combo of bumpy road and sweep tommorow might kick things off

I used an ordinary TENS machine - the only differences are you need to make sure you have the larger sticky bits for your back, and a maternity one has a boost button so that you can increase the intensity during a contraction. I used mine continuously for over 30 hours and found to regular 'turn the dial up - turn it back down again' to be a focus that I used to my advantage. I had control over the pain relief I was administering to myself and it really helped. I borrowed my machine from my friend - her husband bought it for her on Bid Up TV for £3 as she gets aches from where she broke her back years ago.

Hope you get the tens in time

I found mine really helpful, though in the end the constant drumming on my back was really annoying, took my mind off the pain though having something else to moan about :)
