john (OH) just got his police recruitment letter through the post. they want him to do the entrance exam and fitness test on the 22nd of this month.

i'm so happy, but it's starting to become real, and if he gets through it all, he needs to go away from 3 months to train. he would be home at weekends, i would just miss him so much :( we've never really been apart the last 3 years :(

i'm really excited, but at the same time feel sad, he's over the moon though :)

Well done to him.
Its a good move to make just now, Im giving myself 6 months to get my fitness up then Im going to apply too.

Its the going away thing that worries me too

Yay thats great news!! :cheer: Good luck to him!! :cheer:
My aunts husband was going to join the police but got put off then he failed the final test :( They told him that you usually do fail first time unless your extremely fit so dont give up and apply again! Just thought I would say just incase your OH doesnt get through this time

Good luck to your OH.

Sara be prepard though, the shifts are hard work for us women aswell. Im used to them as i met my parnter when he was already in the police but i have a feeling it would be a very hard adjustment.

thanks girls

laura - i think you're right, at least you know with a career like that you'll always have a job :)

kayleigh - i shall just move down south for the 3 months, my best friend lives in epsom or something, is that close to you?

lea - yeah, someone also said that quite often they decline your application the first time, to see if you're serious  i will tell him to keep trying though, he's at the very start, so he's gonna have a hard time ahead.

1sttimemum - i'm dreading the shifts :( i just keep trying to tell myself that he's at the very start of it all, so we don't even know whats going to happen yet

They're away for 3 months to train???? I notice OH left that little snipit of info out whilst selling it to me :shakehead:

Good luck to him!! Oh is currently checking constantly to see if our local one opens recruitment.

I think it depends on the force and where the training centre is as to whether its driveable or not. The one in West Mids is near Coventry so not far to travel on a daily basis but probably have lodgings available.

I know its already been mentioned but the training is the beginning of the time off. I dont want to put a downer on you, more prepare you, that its a way of life. The 'done thing' is to accept most overtime, and when I was with my ex this was at the detriment to many nights/days out that I had already booked, being cancelled incredibly last minute, or not at all until I get a text half way through the time we were meant to have already been out 'doing overtime, see you later', or 'got a big case on might be a bit late home' and the half hours turn to full hours which turn to you cooking dinner for 1 :( Also theres a big socialising thing, and you may feel left out as it's a bit of a scene, more a way of life that a social life.

I'd just be aware that's all. Theres a big shift/overtime/social element to the police force that you may not have considered.. it's not all plain sailing.

But good luck to him... there are so many things to specialise in if he has an interest in a specific area, and it's a great, rewarding career.
