I'm a security manager. I'll be working up to 15th May and Thingy is due on 28th. I will be returning full time but not sure when. My maternity pay is better than most but not sure if I can afford to take a full year off yet!! :?

Another teacher here -

I am a primary teacher working in the Irish midlands. Our pupil teacher ratio is quite high and has been for years which means I've got 32 9 year olds (third class - which is their fifth year in school), 13 boys and 19 girls. They range in ability from can't subtract straight to telling you the latest facts about the number of condors left in the wild.

We have a fairly good maternity package. I can take my 26 weeks' fully paid leave at any stage around my EDD though I think you have to take 2 weeks before, which is what I'm planning to do. If I want further leave it's 16 weeks unpaid before they advertise my job! I can't afford to take the unpaid though as OH is self employed - he's an electrical engineering consultant - and the construction downturn has really hit the business.

All of which means that I won't be going back to work until January 2010, hopefully. It's great, but I hope I can keep it that way - with SPD and anaemia I'm feeling tired and achy most of the time and my class are challenging to keep in order. I love em though. Kids are great. :D
