My dearly beloved daughter has discovered her vocal chords make sounds other than wailing......

she is not really a cryer (touch wood/crosses fingers) but she does make the oddest griping noises... throaty growls and grunts while she is asleep and often while she is feeding......

is this quite common?

Yes, its pefectly fine! My LO used to make a racket during the night. The only way i can describe is a wild boar restling with the bear :rotfl: :wall: He stopped now.

charlotte makes all sorts of wierd and wonderful noises, including grunting and shreiking. It is all about them learning new sounds and trying them out.

Yeah - same here  It's like sleeping next to a piglet

My quiet little boy has just become the loudest most noisiest child you ever did hear. He doesnt shut up. And as for when he is asleep he snores like a man! :rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl:

Id say your LO is perfectly normal! xx

Yep ellies the same, keeps me awake sometimes with her grumbling & moaning!

Yep, perfectly fine. Joseph rolls his tongue, copies noises you make, yelps, screams, shouts, oerrrrs weeeeeeeeeessssss, cooooeeeeee and has started making 'purring sounds'.............I think he's been listening to my mum's cat, too often lol

My LO used to sound like a cross between a piglet and a sweaky wheel when asleep. When I had my LO asleep in her bugy when we were out some woman thought my buby sounded like a guinea pig! Shes mostly grown out of it now tho. xxxxxxxxxxxx

hope mine out grows it soon , i gave up last ngiht at 4.30 this morning and went on the sofa  was so tired and he wasnt crying just really noisey !

Yes Imogen was exactly the same, she has become quieter at night now, only making nolises when she goes off to sleep after a feed. I was so worried, I looked it up on Youtube (search noisy sleeping baby) and there were loads of them!!! That put my mind at rest...

Nothing to worry about hun, what the other girls say about the babies discovering the sounds they can make is true. HV confirmed this and also said baby's digestive system works at night while they are relaxed, so this is them responding to their bodies working. (?????? I was a bit What???? at first, but I remembered it's all new ot babies, we know what most of the feelings we have are about so fair enough).
