I dont get a 12 week scan cos I had one at 9 weeks and they dated me then... Is there any way that I can get a scan cos I really feel like im missing out lol
Well this is what im confused about to be honest cos I havent been offered anything like that :s
I think whats causing problems is that ive had my EPU treatment at a different hospital to what my midwife is at. Ive decided to transfer to the same hospital as the midwife to make it easier all round but its taking ages and im worried im missing things that I need cos im inbetween hospitals.
What if they say you had your dating scan at 9 weeks (which is what they did cos I went for an emergency scan).
Ive asked my midwife to transfer me but heard nothing yet, think ill ring the EPU and ask why I havent had an appointment for my 12 week scan then, if i have no luck il ring midwife but I have a feeling they wont let me have one!
I would do what lisa said to do, everyone is entitled to a 12 week scan in the uk regardless of whether you have had scans before, i had one at 5 wks, 7 wks and 8 wks and my one at 12 wks and my 20 wk one just give the unit a ring, ask to be put through to the scan room and tell them you havent got your appointment through and you want to book it over the phone, let us know how you get on.x
im afraid it depends on the area of the country you are in. with reanna becus i had had miscarriage before her they offered me and early dating scan at 9 weeks then nothing until 20 wek scan. i was offered more frequent visits to mw tho to check baby's hb. they dont offer nuchal scans in my area just dating and 20 week. so im afraid it culd be down to postcode lottery but there is no harm in askin hun so i would ring and check see if you can get anything out of them.
I think you should have the 12 week scan in order to have the nuchal translucency test. However, as already said, unfortunately it depends on where you live. This happened to my brother and his wife...for their first two children they had 12wk and 20wk scans on the NHS. By the time no.3 came along, they'd moved house and had to have the 12wk scan done privately.
It's not fair I know, but it's more important to check that little one is ok, so I'd start investigating where you can have it done..soon!
I had one at 7 weeks and my hospital's policy is that I don't get another until 20 weeks. The blood tests are done at 16 weeks.
I'm not too worried as I'd go straight to A&E if I had any signs of things going wrong. My mum keeps telling me that 30 years ago when I was born they never had scans and only saw the doctor once until they gave birth, unless there were complications! Sometimes I think we have too much info
Ive spoken to the antenatal unit and the chief midwife is not in today so they cant do anything but they said to ring back in the morning and speak to her as she is the only person that can authorise it. Fingers crossed shes in a good mood and she lets me have one!
