When Jaida wakes during the night it takes at least an hour and half to get her fed (even though she's a quick feeder and it only takes about 15mins) change her nappy, give her a little top up feed (about 5 mins) burp her and settle her back to sleep. Is there anything I could do speed the process up?

Last night she slept from about half 7 to 10, then from about half 11 to 4, then didnt go back to sleep again until half 6 to half 9.

Sounds normal to me :)

TBH she is far to small to speed up the process or try to settle into any kind of routine. It really is a go with the flow situation for the first 6 weeks. Babies will do as they need and you just need to try to go with them and let them feed.

Your LO is sleeping long periods overnight already (Galen slept 5 hours in one go one time overnight in his first week and became jaundiced  so was on 2-3 hourly feeds for a week regardless). Babies need to feed often when this small. Don't try to rush her. Her being awake for 2.5 hours before settling again sounds fine to me. Galen would go 3-4 hours often and then only sleep for 2 hours before waking and starting all over again.

Sleep when she sleeps if you can. So if she goes down at 7ish then go get some kip.

But really, it all sounds perfectly normal and she is doing fine. So don't fret and think things need changing.

I didnt get it sped up til he was about 5 weeks, then it was up, fed, back to bed 15mins job done.

But for the first 6 weeks atleast - some will be longer, you have to sleep when bubs sleeps :) Id have been very impressed with my LO if he did that at a week old tho! Your doing well

Hiya,

Just wondering if you're breast or bottle feeding.

I must admit, I've had Ruby in our bed up until now - I feed on my side so I don't have to get up, or even turn the light on. I do change her nappy at night but only if she does a poo or is very wet as this does tend to wake up her and unsettle her. Luckily she's been really good and I've been able to function fairly normally during the day (the other two get up at 8 and don't go to bed until 8.30, they're on school hols so I've got them all day on my own now!!!)

Am dreading putting her into the moses basket - she hates it but I know I've got to do it very soon.

It is really difficult but it does get better, and easier. As someone else said, just try to sleep when you can, and you'll find a routine (don't feel pressured to do this before you're ready - I'd guess they'll be plenty of people offering you well-meaning advice but don't be pressured - just go with the flow and you'll find your own way).

when she's a bit older u wont have to do a nappy change at night , leland can go the full 12 hours in a huggies superdry and still ahve a dry silky smooth bum in the morning , but when there that younge id did it mainly to wake him up a bit for feeding , otherwise he'd fall asleep and be awake again in 2 hours lmao

FWIW babies are not born with an instant body clock to day and night. It takes weeks for them to gradually ease into the sleep patterns we are used to. They need to feed day and night also so if they wake in the night, for them it means nothing. Give her time and I am sure she will find her own little routine once she settles in a few more weeks.

:)

I agree! She is doing really well already to be sleeping from 11-4am at 2 weeks old :D
Dan needed feeding every 3 hours until he was at least 2-3 months old. Then I would see a gradual increase of going a hour longer between feeds.
Like everyone has said, give her time and she will settle into her own routinue.
