As the title suggests, i have a one week old baby. Hubby took oyr 3 year old to nursery where they said there had been a case of chicken pox reported.

We decided to leave DD1 at nursery as she may well have been exposed already and we don't want to upset her routine too much (given recent changes!) by keeping her off for weeks.

Just wondered what you would have done in the same situation or if you have experienced the same???

Thank you!!! Xxx

My age gap was less (19months) so my eldest didn't go back to the childminder until my youngest was 7weeks old. I probably wouldn't have sent him for a couple more weeks but that's with hindsight as my youngest had a bad reaction when exposed to a virus at 8weeks (although his reaction isn't common!). If it weren't for that I wouldn't have given it a thought and just spent him.
It would be worth contacting the GP to see if there's anything needed for your newborn. Your eldest may have been exposed already if she was at preschool last week but might not have. From the research I did when my 2 had it, it's contagious 2 days before the spots come out and can take up to 3 weeks to show. Congratulations on your new addition x

It's hard to no what to do fur the best hun, so don't feel bad. Harry was exposed to chicken pox when he was a few weeks old n I spoke to the doctor n she said he cud get it but it is uncommon as they r still protected from ur immunity from pregnancy n even mote so if breastfeeding(I wasn't) n my lo never caught it and still hasnt!!

It's definitely hard to know what to do for the best and as Hayes said LOs are still protected from your immunity at that age x

The likelihood is if someone has come out in spots, then you LO has already been exposed to it. If I didn't need to send my LO to nursery I would probably keep him home. But I know what it's like with a new baby and a toddler. I'm still sending my eldest to the childminders just now while I settle in with the new baby so I can get some rest!
