 ladies,

Been BF since he was born, he's now 4 days old. My milk came in yesterday and i'm not too sure about a few things..

Can't hear him swallowing, is he still getting the milk? or just suckling and not getting anything :(

Also after he's fed my BB don't feel any less full.. is that right?

Should i be expressing or anything to get engorgment down?.. i've not been doing. feel they too sore. All i do is pop Cooper on boob make sure he latched and off we go. Should i be doing anything else? When he comes off the boob i don't see milk run down his chin or anything.

Think yesterday he had 3\4 wet and pooey nappies.. poo all watery. Had one tis morn aswel.

Thanks if you've got this far, any help would be appreciated  xx

Thanks for your reply. It's just all a worry He's just so chilled he sucks then waits then sucks so maybe milk just flowing down? I'll def keep a check on his nappies since i post i've changed him again and whilst sat here typing this he's just filled his nappy again either that or it was a rather wet trump! :D xx

if he's getting wet and dirty nappies sounds like things are going well :D

good luck! it does get a lot easier after a couple weeks

Hi Keli

It sounds like things are going well so far, I know its hard when you can't actually see what they're getting but if he's pooing and weeing something must be getting in there. :)

Well done for getting this far, it does get a lot more relaxing and less stressful as you get used to it :)

Sounds like you are doing fine - he would not be satisfied after feeding if he isnt getting any milk. The 1st week is the hardest - it does get better and less worrying! Runny poo is normal. Just feed as and when he wants it - you'll be fine.

booby babies need to produce 2/4 poopy nappies and 6 wet nappies a day... which will tell you bubs is fine.. :)

They often loose weight at first so thats not a very good indicator as to how well your LO is doing...but don't worry thats normal :)

You should also hear a soft sorta gah sound when they are suckling... thats them swallowing... although again.. you might not.. :D

He'll be feeding all the time too...especially for the first 6 weeks and that is 100% normal too... :)

Good luck because this is the hardest time and the time most people give up.... but if you can get past the first 6 weeks you will fall deeply in love with bfing...

Sore nipples! lol. After giving birth they popped him on same boob for 2 hrs.. i've had sucking blisters on that nip since then! It's lovely ang green at moment with a few scabs.. nice  Am still feeding off it and just breath through the pain then it settles down. Thanks for your replies, i love breast feeding so far and through out my pregnancy have been reading the posts in this section so i don't think that this will be a walk in the park but am willing to give it everything i've got. xx

Don't know about that Midna sure i'll need all the help i can get :) Thanks again ladies, with the wet/dirty nappies he's def getting something! x

agree with midna, sounds like a good feeder esp. if he's doing wet poo's!

at first i was like that, permanently engorged and melissa never seemed to dribble any- its so hard BFing at first, the unsureness of it all!

but, as i was told when i was where u are now- ur baby will let u kno if he's hungry! if he seems contented then he must be getting enough

omg omg omg that is soooooooooooooooooo true!

I hated the idea of BF but once you get going it's brill. I love it! In the 1st 4 weeks i got through 10 packs of nappies!!! Generally 3 per change coz she lived on my boobs. I'd change 1 very full nappy, and before i had time to do the tabs up she'd fill another! The 1st few weeks are the fun learning stages! But sounds like you know that already!

Although..... when they don't produce pooey nappies, it isn't bad as it often means that they are absorbing every bit of the milk that they are taking in for growing. If they don't poo, it can simply mean that there is no waste and baby needs all it's taken :)

Thanks ladies xx

My blister has now fallen off and nipple red roar have been popping my cream on and leaving uncovered.. is that best way?

Also that breast i can feel lumps on the underside like a hard lump quite big pls tell me its milk and not mastitus :( i feel ok but i must admit it is really hurting  he's feeding off it at moment. he's only having small feeds so should i be popping him on that boob throughout the day so he'll drain all the milk?

Thanks for your help  xx

Wow it sounds like you are doing a fab job, well done hun, the first couple of weeks are the hardest, I recommend Lansinoh for your nips, it made a huge difference for me when mine were all scabby lol
I thinks its normal for babies to pause when feeding, he is prob waiting a second for the milk to come down. Also it took a few weeks before I could tell the difference when Eva had fed, once your supply settles down a bit you will be able to tell more easily....then LO will have a growth spurt and you will be all over the place again lol
Well done to you both! :cheer:
