when will the child cull stiop and the vicious dog one begin :wall: :wall:

This seems to happen every few years. It will start with a horrific attack, then more attacks are in the news for weeks, then there will be a call to change the law in the dangerous dogs act. But nothing will happen, and it will all be forgotten again. The attacks will still happen, but they won't be reported on.

I hope the poor little boy isn't too badly scarred. :(

Cant believe it has happened again! Poor kid & family & well done the guy who rescued him.
As Tankett says it prob happens alot more than we are all aware of but because of recent events every incident will be reported.

I didnt comment on the other thread but read all the comments & my personal opinion is these dogs are dangerous but so are all dogs, yes some more than others but no dog should be trusted alone with a child. Its not thier fault, its in their nature and alot of people train these type of dogs to protect, fight or to look hard.
I have a rescue dog who I do not trust one bit alone with Aimee & im very wary of this. Im not saying accidents dont happen though as it only take a couple of mins to turn your back for something to poss happen, like I heard the door was left open from the roof on that little girl that was killed, that sort of thing can be so easily done.

The majority of the time it is irresponsible dog owners which gives rotties, staffs, german shepards a bad name.
You will always get irresponsible pet owners like you get irresponsible parents ! :shakehead:

It's terrible isn't it? :(

Can't believe its happened again.

I guess it probably happens quite a lot but once one attack makes the headlines a few more do soon afterwards and then it slowly fades out.

I hope the young lad recovers and can lead a normal life.

Wonder whats happened to the dog?
They haven't said have they?

Well said.
Every one is jumping on the band wagon at the moment because of the other dog attack and because it is another rottwieler. If it hadn't been in the news recently then you would never have heard about it.

Budge - Has it been put to sleep then?

I heard that a neighbour hit it with a hammer several times but the dog ran away giving them enough time to get the little boy into the house.

3rd that!

Poor child just lucky someone was there...just a shame it was a neighbour again and not the people supposed to be watching the child!

they were talking about it on this morning.
there is over 6 millon? dogs in the uk and only reported 600 serious dog incidents last yr.

Some of the problems are also from breeding lines, don't get dogs from puppy farm and only get from reputatble breeders, being able to meet both dog and bitch.

owners train their dogs to be guard dogs, but often train them wrong.

You dont often hear of a lassie or a cute dog being in these type of attacks but they still have teeth and could hurt.
I hate the term devil dog and a lot of time time its mismangement by the owner but I would never leave a dog alone near a child.
I feel terrible for children hurt by dogs as its one of the first noises we get a child to make 'what does the doggy do, woof woof', and so on.

I agree, when we eventually get a dog we will be very careful, especially if we get a labrador, because they are a popular family dog they are breing bred more and more in farms so the temprament is all wrong. We will buy from a family, and visit the dogs at home first.

im not sure whether the hammer blow killed it or it was put to sleep. Whatever happened i know its dead.

The dog was put down. The hammer attack only stunned it enough for the man to be able to grab the little boy and take him out of harms way.

All dogs can be dangerous, and should never be left alone with a child. My SIL was bitten by a dog a couple of months ago when she delivered to the house, as some of you will know. She put her hand through the letterbox, the dog jumped up, latched onto her fingers, and didn't let go. Lisa had to grab her wrist with her other hand and put her full weight behind her to pull her hand out of the dogs mouth. She has had surgery, was in hospital for a couple of days, and still has bad scarring and no feeling in 2 of her fingers. This wasn't a rottweiler, pit bull, or alsatian - it was a tiny yorkshire terrier!

Poor little boy hope he's not to badly scarred!

Being a dog owner who has spent alot of time socialising and training my puppy so he is really friendly, it really annoys me the bad press dogs get and particually certain breeds because people dont bring them up responsibly! The majority of dog attacks go in two categories, the dogs who have been brought up by irresponsible owners who think its cool to have an agressive dog or want a guard dog and encourage aggression or the normal family dog that is left unsupervised with young children who are too young to appreciate that pulling a dogs tail/sticking their fingers in their eyes etc shouldnt be done the dog gets hurt and turns on the child in fear and pain and ends up with the child hurt the dog put down!

NO dog regardless how friendly should be left unsupervised with young children if this wasnt allowed to happen alot less children would get injured by dogs! My puppy is soft as they come he loves everyone especially children but I would never trust him unsupervised round children, I put him on the lead when approaching other peoples children on walks, if more owners were responsible with their dogs these atacks wouldnt happen!

Sorry am getting off my soap box now, its just something that really annoys me as its always the innocent parties that suffer the child, or whoever is attacked and the dog (most agressive dogs dont have a happy life their on their own all the time, they need human or canine company and if they attack someone they are put down!) but the person who caused the dog to become agressive gets away scot free!!!

i full understand where you are coming from.
I worked as a veterinary nurse before having ewan and i have seen first hand people who have had certain breeds of dog that they haven't got a clue about, and dont train and end up being unhandleable to the ones that train and learn about the breed.

I will teach Ewan that animals are to be treated with respect and care, if a dog comes up to ewan when we are out i will stand still, or pick ewan up untill i owner says he's ok or till they have gone past. Ewan will chase the dogs given half the chance! i was always taught to never go up to a strange dog.

And i will never leave Ewan alone with one.

Hi I would love to be a vetrinary nurse! Do you miss it? I think animals teach children so much, and I am really hoping that when I have a child it will grow up with my puppy and I will be able to teach it to treat animals with respect as you are doing with Ewan!

I find it shocking how many people are happy to let their children approach strange dogs without asking if they are ok with children even when the dog is on the lead, I am always so pleased when a child asks if its ok to say hello to my dog and doesnt just walk straight up to him its so nice to see them being taught not to approach strange dogs!
