They're gorgeous, especially Miss Tom, such an unusual marking. I used to keep rats, but haven't in years. I just couldn't cope with having to say goodbye again so quickly all the time, as they never lived longer than 2-2.5 years. But my boys were lovely, I miss them.

that is the down side unfortunately but rocket (the old man) he's 3.5 hes my first rat that i had from a kitten, his back legs are going now but hes still trying his best bless him

anyway a ratty question, my 3 have been really fighting the middle aged one is trying to be the boss and has really hurt cocoa (the oldest male at 3yrs) so much so that i needed to separate cocoa into another cage so he could recover, he literally couldn't walk as all his back legs were bitten up and muddy (the middle rat) was trying to eat him .

cocoa is now in a gerbil tank (as my sons gerbils have just died one by one they were 3 years old too) which has 3 levels to it and a mesh lid, i have put in a ladder for him to climb, but i realise this is not ideal as it does not have good enough ventilation for him and not much to climb it is also a bit small.

can i put him back with the others in the big cage or do i need to buy a new one just for him (i don't really want to spend out as he is v old anyway and i don't have many pennies)

any advice

as he is 3 i would maybe try and find another male to keep him company of a similar age (its hard though, im looking for an old boy to keep rocket company) and then get an old indoor rabbit cage as a retirement/hospital cage, you can get them really cheaply second hand just give it a scrub, alternatively you could get the middle rat neutered (this works really well, ive got 2 neutered boys) as long as you have a good rat vet. either that or try him back in slowly but keep an eye for any serious injuries. how old is the middle rat? and has he gone for the other boy? also as your old boy is 3 he may be losing muscle in his back legs anyway making it difficult for him to walk (one of those things oldies get unfortunately ) so the unable to walk may have been a combination of the injuries and age.

hi the middle rat is 2 and the third rat is a baby and only 1, so he knows who is boss!! the oldest rat (cocoa) back legs are fine now they are all fixed, but oh would go mad if i got another rat, since i have had adam they just don't get the attention they need and deserve. would you like him?? i feel bad that he is alone but i just don't think he will go back in with the others.
