My dream...

Last night, I dreamt I was overdue and had to go in for a sweep.

Now, bearing in mind, I have no idea what a sweep entails, my brain made it up.

They put a device up my foof, inflated a balloon and swept this over my cervix. I was then told to put a pad on, toddle off home and wait to go into labour.

Can someone please tell me what they actually do, please, now my curiosity has got the better of me? Xx

Haha bless ya! You'll be relieved to know that's not quite it! From what I understand, they insert a finger and move it around in your cervix to loosen it. I haven't actually had one though, will be doing on Tuesday if a miracle hasn't happened by then! x

yeah they stick a finger up you and if they can insert it into the rim of your cervix and 'sweep' it around feeling for the babys head and membranes. it can help you go into labour by irritating the cervix and making it dilate faster
