Mum, Heroin and Me

I'm just going to watch it on +1 because i missed it :-)

I found that so, so hard to watch. Like you said Valentine it was completely heartbreaking. It must be so, so soul destroying for he mother. I too can't decide whether the mother is being a pushover or is just doing what any mother would do being pt in that situation. I don't know why but it made me very emotinal to watch it, a very poignant programme I thought.

OMG they burgled the mums house and she said "hes a lovely boy, i know he didn't want to steal our tv, if he could get prescribed heroin it would be ok" SERIOUSLY...get a grip woman!!! shes way too soft (well imo so far)

this is so hard 2 watch, its so sad to think people live like this!!
its heartbreaking, and as a mother i dunno how i would cope if any of my kids turned out like this

That woman was a nutter. Yeh they are really a lovely pair  the daughter obviously couldnt give 2 shits about her mum if she kept getting clean and then 'relapsing'. And that house :puke: :puke: :puke: . Was sad (for the mum) but them 2, what a waste of air!

sorry but i could barely watch this, i thought it was absolutey shocking. i couldn't believe the mum was doing this :( she thinks she is helping her daughter, in essence, she's helping to kill her. i just don't know :(

Just started to watch this on catch up  I cant believ her boyfriend!! I met him outside Brighton station about 6/7 years ago when he first came down here from up north and he was freezing, so I brought him home and cooked him dinner and gave him a duvet, I cant believe he is still here!! He was such a nice bloke though tbh :( I often wonder what happened to him, unfortunately in Brighton this goes on wayyyy to much.
I had to pause it while I came here to post this, im gonna go back and watch it now xx

I agree the mum is just helping her, Its really sad that on her 21st birthday the mum knew that if she didn't buy her heroin and take her to get it and then back to her flat to shoot up, then she wouldn't have been able to spend the day with her because she would have had the rattles..how sad is that! you could tell how uncomfortable she was with it but she just wanted to spend the day with her daughter.
And she seems to think that one day her daughter will hit rock bottom and sort it out but the truth is the daughter has it too comfy, and the mum doesnt have the strength to enforce tough love and turn her back on her, stop supporting her so that she can truly feel a real loss...addicts need someone to be tough with them and make them see reality or whats the incentive to make them stop? there isnt one..she knows if she is really stuck her mummy will bail her out!!

the thing is though that there so addicted to the substance they wont see the reality! Her mum not giving her the heroin isnt going to stop her from doing drugs! She would just become a prostitute, steal things, turn to a life of crime. So in essence for her mum its just the lesser of two evils.

Such a sad programme. I also couldnt believe what the mum was doing but who knows what you would do in that situation. When i was in hospital last year i befriended a heroin addict (lots of people on drugs in hospitals ive established) and she was a complete mess.. had taken up prostitution, had no teeth, her heart had almost failed, yet she was such a nice person..Im so glad i never got into the drugs scene. the sad thing is that its so much more common now.. i hope to god my LO doesnt go down that road!

Not really i mean yeah they are not going to see reality if the mum keps bailing her out...but its actually proven (even the drugs councillor on the programme said this) that tough love..turning your back on the addict and refusing to see them until they are clean is counted as "a loss" it takes these losses to make the addicts want to stop, it is not a miracle cure and doesnt work overnight or for everyone...sometimes it takes more loss (so her boyfriend dying or something) but while the mum keeps on making her life comfy like that she doesnt stand a chance at all!!

totally agree with that! i did start to feel sorry for the mum when she wanted to spend the day with her for her bday, but she'd to take her to her dealer then let her shoot up first - then i could no longer feel sorry for her :( she sat in that car while her daughter went in and poisoned herself with that stuff  no way in hell would i knowingly let me child do that :(

I totally agree. It was devastating watching her waste away like that :( She's back in the Spring next year so I hope they do a follow up programme to see how she got on.

She's such a beautiful girl, and such a lovely home to come from - Just goes to show drugs can affect anyone x
