Hi ladies, not sure if anyone can help with this....

My DH has been offered a job in London (we live in Scotland at the moment) and if he accepts, we would be due to move down there just before (about 4 weeks before) my due date (28th March)

my question is - can I book into a hospital in London (I need a c section due to spinal problems and would like to go private if possible) and have my checks and scans up in Scotland? would a private obstetrician in London be ok with that or would they want me to fly down for check ups etc?

Bit of a funny query I know, and I would probably be best to ring up and ask them but I dont want them to think I'm being ridiculous.....

I moved from Hampshire to London when I was 36 weeks pregnant. Before I left Hampshire my daughter was in a breech position and I was told that I would need a c.section. When I moved I took all my notes from Hampshire and took them straight to the local GP and got registered with a midwife there.

They never wanted me to go down before hand... And when it came down to it I never needed a c section because all the moving of boxes had encouraged my daughter to go head first. I never even got a scan because I had moved down there too late in their minds.

As in your case, I think you should mention it to your consultant in Scotland and get him to write a letter of referral to the Consultant in London, explaining your situation and needs. You can then give this to the doc's either private or otherwise in London. What you may find is that the doc's in London see things very differently than the ones in Scotland, so it's best to get your consultant to write a very thorough letter.

I don't think you will need to register with a doctor before you move, although with Private doctors in London they do accept patients from further a field, but you would probably have to go down there first to be examined.

thanks Squiglet, thats a really good help
I'll speak to my consultant up here and get him to do me a letter.
