Just a quick rant really!!
Was at OH's parents yesterday to pick up our daughter, she had stayed over night.
First thing his mum says is "oh, your filling out arnt you!" so I just smiled and started talking to my daughter.
Then his dad says "wow, your getting rather large!" again I just smiled and said yeah.
They live on a farm so i couldnt stay long because Iv got really bad allergies, but in the space of about 15 minutes I got called fat, fatty, beefy and other annoying comments that by the time I left I was blocking out. There the only people that comment on it. I remember when pregnant with my daughter they did the same thing and it really upset me. I told OH I wasnt happy with what they said and I shall be avoiding them for the rest of my pregnancy!! Another thing thats really pissed me of is now my daughter isnt well, she was ill the last time she came back form there too.
Ok, wasnt that quick a rant, sorry!

  argh they sound my inlaws, cant believe they are that insensitive

How bloody insensitive, I hate it when people say things like that..... you're pregnant not large!!!!! Grrrrrrr

Your tiny with a rounded bump as far I as can see in your bump picture, ignore them!

Oh Crikey i would be furious!!! How would they take it if you pointed out what you thought about their figures!! (presuming they don't have the bodies of angelina and brad pitt) And your pregnant !!!!

I got told the other day "oh you must be carrying a girl because when you have a boy you just have a bump up front but when you carry a girl you put weight on all over" ......... i was stunned! So thats around-about way of you saying you think i've put weight on all over then?!?! (i thought am i being over sensitive or was that a bit tactless) Up until then i'd thought i only had put weight on on my boobs and tummy..... that soon told me it was all just wishful thinking!!

I just won't say anything like that to anyone no matter what i thought!!

You're entitled to a rant babe!

There are so many ways to say that someone definitely looks pregnant;

"You've got a gorgeous bump!"
"You're definitely blooming, so is little bump"
etc etc

*tut* some people just don't understand that our bodies are changing dramatically and therefore a little sensitivity to the subject is in order!

Oh dear :wall: How about mentioning it to your OH again? He might be able to step in next time and say "Mum! That was a bit rude!" or something? It's always easier on us if someone else does the pointing out of inconsiderate words! :D xx

waht's the difference between inlaws and outlaws?

Outlaws are wanted.

:rotfl: So simple but yet so effective (& true!)

Just having a nosey around in here from 1st tri - could be in 2nd tri, no idea until i meet my mw and get booked in for a scan. (was on the pill without breaks when i fell pregnant)

This thread reminds me of my OH nan, I'm going to sound really horrid now, but she is, to put it mildly, a bitch.

A few weeks ago, we had to pick the car up from her house when we got back to UK from holidays, as soon as I walked through the door she says "Whats THAT" poking my stomach really hard.
Still haven't told her I'm pregnant, as far as she's concerned, you only should have one child.
My OH's dad told her the first time (he's brilliant, could'nt meet anyone nicer to be honest), and she told him to tell me to have an abortion.
Awful old woman she is.

she can kiss this >>>> :moon:

:rotfl:

I'd be offended too, I'm amazed because I thought I wouldn't mind being proud of looking pregnant and showing off, people touching the bump or talking to you in queues and stuff, but in reality you don't feel like that at all!

I know I'd be feeling the same as youo if someone said that to me.

Also, Keeley, she thought you should have an abortion because you should only have one child?

no, she thought i should have an abortion the first time round because she seems to think every woman should have a really well paid job until about the age of 30, THEN have kids the silly old bat.
Thats why haven't told her about this one yet, she came round to the idea of me having one - well, tough shit if she didn't anyway.
But everytime ive seen her since giving birth shes said, oh you better be having that contraceptive jab.

I really don't know who the hell she thinks she is
No wonder me and OH moved 200 miles away from her lol

my FIL calls me "chubby bird", "tank arse" and "tubs"...BUT I know he's only joking and it's his way of being affectionate about 'bump'- maybe that's how they feel? it must be nice for them to see the bump but perhaps they don't know how to mention it?

Take it on the chin- I always turn it around and say something along the lines of "so when's your's due??!!" with a smile on my face so he knows I am only playing too.

I wish they were saying it in a jokey way but there not that type of people.
I know I shouldnt let it bother me, OH says its not meant to mean Im fat just pregnant but why cant they say that instead of using those words!

I think they just want you to nod and smile and think that they are doing and saying the right things.

My FIL turned round to me at our party friday and said "ohhhh you are getting bigger now arn't you"
my response was " i'm having your grandchild i can't see me getting smaller, somehow" For the rest of the night i got no wise crack comments.

Aw, they probably don't even realise and think that pregnant women don't mind being called fat - some kind of weird compliment?? But if they say it again I'd feel free to comment on their bodies, it's just as intrusive! xx

my FIL calls me slim...i call him fatty..we have a good relationship
