hi everyone

I have a q bout bfing. I had my son by emergency c section and fed him straight after but I dunno if there was any milk there...and as he was in special care for a day or so they gave him formula through a tube...so I fed him when I got him back but had to supplement (on mw's advice) as I didnt have enough and apparently it took a while for my milk to come in. I just wanna know if Il be able to make enough for the twins cos I didnt really notice when my milk came in and was successfully able to bf my son for 7 months, and how lng does the colustrum stage last, will it be enough for em?
Im very worried as I dont wanna have to top up with formula this time.

thanx

hiya!!
my daughter ebony was in the newborn unit for 5 days and i wanted to breastfeed. i was advised to express everytime she wanted feeding for as long as she was feeding on the unit, she couldnt latch on to start off with so they cup fed her formula and once my milk had built up they fed her my breast milk.
i had to try to get her on the breast a few times a day until she got the hang of it. once she had established feeding and her blood sugar levels were normal again she was allowed onto the maternity ward with me until they discharged us.
they had to be happy that she was feeding properly before she was allowed home.

i was worried about the amount of milk i was producing but she was putting weight on nicely she only lost a few ounces of her birth weight before plumping up nicely.
i felt happier knowing her blood sugar levels were normal. (i was told that if she wasnt feeding enough her levels would drop a lot.)

Hope i have been of some help! :D

I'm sure your body will know you're having twins and make more milk to compensate. It's just a case of giving it a try and seeing how you get on, if you can't breastfeed them exclusively using formula isn't the end of the world.

I only lasted a week at breastfeeding last time so I'm expecting to have to switch to formula before long
