Ive been bleeding for about a week nothing really heavy its mainly when i wipe i get a mixture between bright red and brown blood only had mild period like cramps. Been going to hosp to find out whats going on and been told that because my levels arnt doubling and its just an empty sac it means ive miscarried and need to have a d&c tomorrow. Are they right or is it too early to see anything. My info is :

Sounds like a blighted ovum but i may be wrong.
I wouldn't question them, they normally know what they are talking about and are full of knowledge when it comes to scans etc.

So by your last scan on the 18th you should have been 5wks pregnant?

I went for a scan fairly early in my pregnancy, about 5/6 weeks. My sonographer told me that at that stage she expected to see only a sac and a yolk, which was there. I went back at 7wks and that's when we could see a fetal pole and heartbeat.

If your unsure you can ask for a second opinion or ask them to rescan in a week? But I suspect that if the sac is completely empty, with no yolk, then unfortunately there will be no baby. I'm so sorry xxx

4 weeks is very early so it's hard to see anything and I have heard of them incorrectly diagnosing blighted ovum before, usually in women with a tilted uterus, however as you are bleeding I would say they are probably right sadly.
I had a blighted ovum miscarriage too but we didn't find out until I was 11 weeks, the sac etc passed naturally at 12weeks and was the size it would have been if there were a baby present (measured at 11 weeks when we found out) so the sac alone grew and measured right for weeks. Mine also started with light bleeding for a week or so, then the actual MC was very heavy and painful similar to early labour pains with lots of big clots and the sac etc, then it settled to a fairly normal period for a week or so afterwards. I think it was then 5 weeks before I had a cycle again before we could start ttc (we now have a very gorgeous 11month old DS).
You also dont HAVE to have a d&c, especially as you are early. As you are bleeding your body has probably already started the process, so you don't have to have it if you don't wish to. I know a lot of people opt to anyway but for others it can be added unnecessary trauma at an already difficult time.
Hope you are feeling OK
