Maternity Allowance

Hi everyone, I am self employed, so not entitled to any maternity pay, do any of you know anything about maternity allowance, how you claim it and when, my baby boy is due on the 17th March, thanks Julia

would you not still be entitled to SMP (statury Mat Pay) that the government pays, its £108 a week iirc

Hi Julia,

I'm self employed too and have just put in a claim for mine. As long as all your Class 2 NI contributions are paid and up to date you are treated as earning the full amount and will be entitled to the full £108 per week for 26 weeks/39 weeks if born on 31-03-07 or after.

(I also read that self employed can receive up to £120 per week, but I'm not sure so I'm just going to wait and see what they say!)
