Making the decision to stop bfing..

How and when did you decide to stop bfing?
M is weeks away from 6 months and I have ebf (with the odd bottle of formula) and find myself thinking should I/when ahould i stop bfing?
I'm not back at work until M is nearly 11months, part of me wants to bf her until then but the other part says give yourself a break.
I love the closeness of bfing and feel almost sad that I would stop?
Obviously I will need to cut down feeds eventually as expressing after I go back to work isn't really an option for me.

Just curious as to other experiences and how you made your decision, did you feel guilty, relived?!

Well done in getting this far. I went back to work at 9 months. From 6 months I cut down gradually on Bf until I was just doing first and last feeds. Wen I went to work I eventually cut out night feed as I work shifts and didn't want to confuse LO. At nearly 11 months I still do first morning feed if he wakens before 7 looking fed. If he doesn't waken early I just give him breakfast.

I didn't decide. Pregnancy did it for us. Lol.

Although I'd prob have still done the self weaning. When we stopped at 11 months it was mostly just morning, night and the odd nap. I think it's quite hard to know at 6months how you'll feel at a year.

Thanks for the replies ladies.

I know I want to keep up the night/morning feeds just not sure of when to drop more feeds.
I am happy as we are atm so until the time comes ill just keep going

We are happily BFing at 9 months and I plan to let C self wean. I have had many a wobble though!! Xx

MyLO self weaned at 11.5 months.

Though I would have stopped at one for definitely.

When they self wean us this them just dropping feeds because of weaning? Do you still give then milk after they self wean from the boob!?

I had to stop at 10 weeks due to going back to uni and expressing not being an option. It broke my heart and I cried for days because I felt so guilty! Wish I could have kept it up for longer. xx

I'd probably still give milk as a drink iykwim, cos they still need dairy. Most children don't self wean till 2-3. There is a common misconception about it happening around 9/10months, but generally that's a short term nursing strike.
